Hey,

So currently deployed, but have been ordering parts for a relatively future-proof gaming/media center PC. I wanted to get your feedback on where the weakpoints would lie on this baby:

CPU: i7 4770k (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8037048&CatId=8741)

MoBo: Asus z87-Pro (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8139493&CatId=8586)

GPU: EVGA GTX 760 Superclocked (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8333217&CatId=7387)

RAM: Vengeance Blue 4x4GB 1.6ghz DDR3 (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=40739&CatId=4534)

SSD: Sandisk 256GB (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5552077&CatId=5300)

Media HD: WD Blue 1TB 7200 RPM (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3232686&CatId=2459)

PSU: CX 750 (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7564404&CatId=2533)

Cooler: (Air) Evo 212 (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1284316&CatId=798)

Case: Thermaltake Armor Revo Snow (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2406340&CatId=1510)

Display: Asus VG248QE 144hz (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7674733&CatId=5469)

Solution
Change the PSU to something better. Go for the Corsair TX series instead, or go for the Seasonic or XFX PSU's

Also looks like you are spending way too much on a gaming rig, and by spending a bit less on CPU, Motherboard and other things, you might be able to fit in a 770 there which is a beast.

Also what is your overall budget for this build. Can I know it? You know.. there is always room for improvement.
I really don´t see any weak points actually. 😉
Pretty great build.

I´d say the biggest "weak point" (I wouldn´t even call it that) would be your CPU cooler. It´s a great cooler but there still are better (and much more expensive!) ones. Which means if you would want to overclock, you might run into its limits.

Next "weak" point: If you plan on video editing or something like that, 8GB of RAM might not be enough to fully take advantage of the rest of system. But for streaming and gaming 8GB should be more than enough.

But like I said, no real weak points on this build.

You might want an Noctua cooler, you will get free mounting brackets if you would like to switch to a new chipset.

Ram: Id recommend 2 times 8GB so you have 2 Ram slots left if you might need more Ram in the future.

I use approx 12gb of ram, not many need more then 8 yet but it might not be so long until it will be necessary.

So in short its about what you want to do with it in the future, future changes often, current setup is max 16gb or as i said, you could upgrade later to 32gb ram.

I really really recommend 16gb to start with, imagine editing 4k video for youtube... 😛 1080p smashes it already.

As said, i use 12gb ram in Photoshop alone 😉

But hey! the choice is yours!

thanks for taking a look. the hardest part right now is the wait; wont be home to build (and coddle it) until december.

going to ultimately be attempting to use this a media hub for the house as well.

How has setting up plex/xbmc and streaming to multiple TV's worked for anybody? looking for some ideas.

I have a build much like this. Just FYI, but for just $40 more you get a much more powerful next generation GPU. Look up the AMD Radeon R9 280X. It will come out in mid-october and has the power of a GTX 780 for only $300.

i figured the corsair bronze would do the trick...

what is the differences between the 760/770/780 aside from two large denomination bills per stratum?

i figured the mobo and cpu would be good for some time. the GPU would be holding me over until i could afford to get a titan or whatever sick piece of tech the tech gods bequeath upon us in the next few years.

i've already purchased all of the components. all in all, probably spent too much for a computer, but a man has to treat himself every once and a while!

LH: i looked around and didnt see any tech specs for the AMD Radeon R9 280X, can you link?

The 780 is much faster than the 770.

The 770 is slightly more powerful than the 760 but the performance gap is quite large between the two.

Also never go for the titan in the future. It is quite overpriced. The AMD R290-X would soon be launched that performs better than the Titan for just 600 dollars making it a sweet deal.

You sure about that? Not doubting or trolling, serious question. 😉
I havn´t had the time to catch up on the AMD release/showoff but the last thing I read stated that AMD was planning on placing their topline new GPU slightly below the GTX780.
