i7-4790k cooler options (Haf X case)

Hello,

So I've been rendering videos lately and my cpu has been Getting rather hot. I have a corsair h100i but it seems to have not been doing well. I've reseated it a couple times but I can never get the temp to stay in the low thirty's on idle. any Ideas on what to do? Oh and when rendering I see the temp reaching around 85 C. gaming is fine in the 50s.

What thermal paste are you using/how long as it been since you replaced it? What are the fans set at? How clean is the radiator?
You can replace the cooler, but it should be keeping up just fine.

Paste is artic silver 5 and has been on roughly 4 to 5 months. Fans are on default performance mode. Radiator is clean just cleaned it last week. I know the paste isn't great but would it make that big of a difference? Btw the cooler itself only gets up to 35°C max. Which leads me to believe it's not set very well.

How much paste did you put on? I personally dont like AS5 because of its cure time.

I used the manufacturer's recommended application.

But you are not alone on that dislike of that cure time. I'm thinking of trying a different paste. Any you'd like to recommend?
