hey guys so i did the stress test on my i7 4790k with prime 95 v26.6 and here is a snapshot of it can anyone tell me is this normal or should i be concern? http://i61.tinypic.com/1zez8mh.png
also, I use the zalman cnps10x optima. it worked fine for my fx 8320. but I'm looking into getting something a bit more powerfull..
the zalman cnps10x optima is nearly identical to the hyper 212 evo. that's why the similar temps. also prime gives very high reading, real world applications wont give you temps like that.
I hit 85C on the Intel stock cooler on P95 while waiting for WC components to arrive..... but my use of that utility is limited to setting TIM. The Hyper 212 gets ya a little more but not much.
i wouldnt sweat it to much im running 4770k with a 212 prime was pushing mine 74-78 and there isnt a game out there that gonna push that 4790 to 100% all the time like prime does. i dont think he's gonna need to oc with that cpu unless he just wants to have fun i dont even oc mine i just dont need to
For CPU readings try using Easytune per http://www.gigabyte.com.au/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4970#ov
Smudgy :

Yeah I think so Prime shows some unrealistic temps cause when playing games like far cry 4 it reaches max 60-62 not above that neways i will try the utility given by i7baby and report back should i run Prime95 and check temps in the utility?
Yeah 4.4ghz is more than enough for me atleast for now
You run a game or use the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool. Prime is a bit over the top. Even 26.6. Its really only to test an overclock stability. If you're not OCing then I wouldn't use it.

Okay then i will try running some games and check the temps in the gigabyte utility and hwmonitor should 1 hour be more than enough?

Hey guys thank you for your helps but I noticed it was my ambient temperature affecting the CPU temps cause today when I turned my room AC on and the temps I got were really nice first the temps went upto 82 as usual and then after turning the AC on they started dropping below 70 as my room was quiet chilled you can check the Image http://i60.tinypic.com/11cbdef.jpg
Your CPU should be on 40C max at idle and 60C max while gaming.
Blow your case out with compressed air - to get rid of dust build up. Get rid of any CPU overclock. Make sure your CPU cooler fan is running at over 1000rpm.
If that doesn't fix it, re-seat the cooler (new thermal paste).
If that doesn't work, then get a better CPU cooler.
ambient temps do make some of a difference my comps next to my window i crack it open let my intake fans suck it in i can idle 18c lol on my 4770k poor mans freon cooler i live in new england we all know prime95 just heats the hell outta cpu's if your in the 70's in prime wailing on it your fine
i still think your idle temps kinda high maybe to much thermy paste what kind did you use? ive gotta full phantom case and its 75f in here an just surfing im running 24c i also have the 212 with push pull set up.personally i'd amp up your case fans a few more revs an see oh an one more thing i'm running 103 cfm fans with high static pressure
