Doing some research and I have found some really controversial stuff regarding the two CPUs. I'm using a MSI R9 380 4GB and looking on Amazon they are seriously the same price. I just really want to know which one is better? I'm thinking the 4790k is very popular and possibly optimized more on most games however the 6700k is newer, possibly meaning it's better. Ugh, all confusing for me. Any information would be fantastic, thanks!

Slightly modified from your earlier question. You could have just continued that thread.

i7-6700k is faster then the i7-4790k in general.
if only slightly, in some games the i7-4790k was faster, but this is at stock speeds, and the i7-4790k is clocked higher at stock. If you overclock or underclock both to the same frequency the Skylake is faster.
i5 has a little less cache and lacks hyperthreading. Single core performance is basically the same at the same frequency.
i5-6600k is superior to the i5-4690k in almost every way.

Keep in mind the most referenced and searched for information is the oldest available. New findings generally receive a lot less press. Much of what I recall on when the i7-6700k came out was with press samples and...
A processor can't be better optimised than another for games. if one CPU is faster, It's likely to be always faster in performance in any game you play.

If you're just playing games though, why not i5-6600k? Or even i5-6400/6500 might be enough?

But is a i7 6700k not good for the long run. I like to game and also record/render. Surely it must be a better choice than the i5?

edit: I've also seen in benchmark videos that the fps difference is significant between the two.

Not significantly different in many games has to be said, especially not with your GPU I don't think. For now I record and render with an i5-4690 and I'm fine. Sometimes the Intel i5 is underrated. If you think you can easily afford an i7 and you know you'll use it well, then go for the i7-6700k.
