Hi,

I recently purchased the ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII GENE and was wondering If I can still overclock my i7-6700 non k via the BCLK method (I'm hoping to get it to 4.7ghz). My concerns are that maybe the older bios won't recognize my Gigabyte Aorus 1080ti Xtreme. I'm new to overclocking, any help would be of much appreciation.

Solution

I have the ASUS Z170-E and i had stability issus with CPU and stuff. So updated the bios. SUPER EASY. and works just fine. If you have to end up with updating the BIOS its simple on most ASUS motherboards. No i don't think it should mess with the GPU. I never had GPU problems

I don't think the i7 6700 Is overclock able. Does have a turbo of 4.0 and hyper threading technology. When it comes to oveclocking, take it easy. Step by step process, If you get the i7 6700K. You up the Core speed and cache, up the Voltage depending by how much the cores were increased and then stress test them to see if there are stable. You also want to have the best cooling possible. Don't let the CPU get more than 65C is what i recommend. For example: you over clock to 4.2 and the best Voltage you have is 1.152V, and its stable and cool. you can over clock more, lets say 4.4 and set voltage to 1.168V. Then stress test and monitor temps. It all depends on Voltage and CPU Temps

Thanks for replying :), My source for even thinking this cpu was overclock-able was from various postings online as well as this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiw2r-_AdGM Also I have an EVGA CLC 240 cooler which I'm sure is sufficient cooling.

Sounds good. The EVGA CLC 240 should cool your CPU just fine

Are you familiar with the older asus bios, do you think it will have any problems with my gpu?
