HAI!
Here goes- so far I have a fairly solid idea of what I'd like to have, but I'd like to fine-tune the parts selection and go real HAM, if you know what I mean :).

what i have so far: i7 6700k CPU
LG Electronics UM95 34UM95 34-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor
Radeon HD 7950 video card
HDDs- ssd Samsuns 830, 128Gb, various 7200/slower mechanical drives for storage
got peripherals, etc, etc.

Purpose:
Mainly for gaming and not having to deal with computer building for the next 5 years at least. avoided going 4k just cause I'd probably need another 1/2 newer and more expensive video cards. I will revisit video cards after VR headsets come out and we know what they will require.

What I need (budget)
Motherboard LGA 1551 afaik -$150-tops $300 if its really worth it, preferably under $200. Need it to support 2 video cards (for potential sli/crossfire down the road) ( i guess 2 x 16 PCI), M.2, fastest ddr4 that's reasonable to buy, 4 slots 8gb each)

Case: Thermaltake Core V21/ Core V1 snow/ suppressor F1/ Core P5 (id prefer smaller case, but should be able to contain video card, cpu cooler, potentially 2nd video card), decent air flow for OCing, yadda, yadda. Dont really care what it looks like, price- no more than $200 (its a metal box... should be free imho lol)

Cooler for CPU ( i7 6700K) i dont like water cooling- will be traveling with PC in trunk of car, so fan preferrably

RAM DDR4 2x8Gb no more than $200

M.2 Hard drive for OS boot up no more than $250

PSU- quiet, modular, under $200

What I am looking at so far:
RAM:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231902

ive read great things about Mushkin RAM too. not married to anything yet, just can't figure out whats best in terms of price/performance ratios

M.2 drives
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147466&cm_re=m.2_ssd-_-20-147-466-_-Product 256gb. seems like the upper ceiling for my budget. totally down for anything else that has similar performance parameters

PSU- no clue so far, heard good things about "be quet!" but thats it.. havent had the time to read up on that

Mobo- i guess whatever supports all of the above- 2 video cards, M.2, i7 6700k, ddr4 ram, etc

I am aware this looks like "yo, just do all the work for me" but the last PC i built for me was 9 years ago, and like everything is new! I have spent hours on each component and am still fairly lost 🙁. HALP PLS Cheers!

PS: once everything is selected, ordered and put together, I am planning on writing out a fully detailed blog-type post that explains every choice/selection/decision since I would imagine there are plenty of people with similar needs, i.e. u won't be helping just me, ill try to pass it all along with proper info cheers 😀

Solution
I've just finalised my build for an i7 6700k build, if you want to check out the parts i'm going to use here they arehttp://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/XKnWNG
I recommend the MSI z170a M7 motherboard as it can support ddr4 up to 3600Mhz, it has the best overclocking features I have seen from a motherboard, is very attractive, it also has a game boost knob which was pretty awesome if you don't know too much about overclocking.
In regards for the cpu cooler, go for the cryorig H7 as you will be able to overclock the cpu to the extremes and still be ok, its pretty cheap, is a fan and it is absolutely amazing, way better than any watercooler in it's price range.
for the RAM I'd use the ones in my build, they're the best price for the performance...

basically cause i already have it and i wont need an upgrade for the next 2-3 months, which happens to be the time when hopefully i will know what kind of video card/ video cardS i will need for the VR headsets coming out. i know its underpowered compared to the rest of the components.

for the RAM I'd use the ones in my build, they're the best price for the performance you get so it's all good there.
For the PSU I'd recommend the one in mine too as it is 1000W so if you're going to go SLI then you've got a lot of room to do so (by the way the motherboard is veryyyy good with sli and crossfire, it has some pretty cool features, go check it out) the psu is also modular so is all nice and tidy, it's fairly cheap and quiet too.
For some case fans by the way I'd recommend the corsair SP120 as it is very quiet and has amazing performance!!
For a case I'd more than highly recommend the fractal design R5 as it is amazingly modular so it's a case to keep for a veryyyyyy long time.
I don't know too much about M.2 drives so sorry about that for the normal HDDS just go for the WD xTb 7200RPM 64mb cache ones as they are so cheap and pretty reliable, stick them on a raid 0 and it would be very nice 😉 That's just my thoughts anyway, I've had help from a lot of other people to perfect my build so I'm passing on the info like you're trying to do :)

OCD Tweaker the i7 4790k CPU is a different socket type than the i7 6700k and cannot utilize DDR4 RAM so isn't right for what this person wants but the i7 4790k is still a very decent CPU.
