so i had issues with my ekwb blocks, removed them and issues i had were gone.im planning on getting a aio this weekend but when i turn my system on, it immediately hits 98c in under 4 seconds.i FULLY understand it would run wamr without any coolers on it but thats very hot, i even shut it down right when it hit that point, wasnt about to risk anything.
basically im trying to figure out an opinion if i should still get a aio and drop it by 10-30c(granted if 98 is the highest it was going to hit, might have gone higher if i didnt shut it down), or just upgrade to a 7700k since my board is a z270.
since my pc specs need to be updated, they are as fallows:
corsair 570x case, 6 corsair rgb fans,asus maximus hero ix, 32gb(2x16) DDR4 patriot viper@2400mhz, i7 6700k, asus 1080ti FE/pny 1080ti FE in SLI, corsair 1200i psu, adata 256 m.2, transcend 480gb ssd and a hitachi 7200rpm HD.

when i had the ekwb a240g set up, i kept geting leaks on the outlet and it kept crashing my system (pump was left outside case during) hence why i went back to stock

also not sure if its relivent but the gpus stopped working in sli with the waterblocks, but havent been able to test the sli since this heating issue occurred. also both cards do display video(didnt for a few days while ek blocks were on them)

Solution
usually once spiking it doesn't fry the CPU immediately. that would be some very tough luck.
I ran my old AMD Phenom II for a good 20mins without active cooling (my fan failed and my board's alarm didn't work) and that CPU is still running.
so chances you actually damaged it is pretty low. but you know...it's about luck. usually such a short spike in temperature doesn't immediately damage anything.
Pretty much no reason upgrading to 7700k from 6700k, unless you fried your processor by turning it on with no cooler, which was quite silly. You will just have to get new cooler and see what the damage is.

for sure thanks for the reply. im just stumped looking every where since it hits 98c soo fast its not much time to navigate the bios to check the vocore. im thinking it got damaged though since i was using icdiamod and had to reapply the ek heatsink 6 times, i think it might have damaged the top of the chip.

also worried that if it didnt stop at 98c, and i toss on a aio, it wouldnt be very much difference at that point ya know?

Not quite sure what you mean, what I suggest is buying the cooler (e.g. corsair h100i v2) put it on and see how the machine is, if smthn is damaged then you'll just have to replace.

running it without cooler, you probably fired something that was VERY bad idea. If 6700k did not try, then no reason to go for 7700k. Its faster YES, but not so much faster to waste all that cash.

get 25$ air heatsink, and try to use it. Should be around 70-80*C.

if so, then you have bench CPU, if still can get top speeds (damaged parts get perma throtle-down) then still good :)

thats great to know, i was worried all that re applications of ic diamond ruined the top of the cpu and wasnt disipating heat or something. thanks! imma for sure get that aio and hope it stablizes :/keywork, hope. i invested soo much into this build just to have 1 issue after another lol jsut want to get the cpu working right and hope the sli / both cards dont have any issues. its been a frustrating few weeks haha
