I7 6950X what temps should i get when overclocking and what is the max temp and how to overclock?

I've been buying Overclockable CPU's since my second pc with a i7 4770k but never got into overclocking and decided I would like to start because I have never done it before, and thought it would be cool to see what my i7 6950x can do and this is my current specs for the system:

  ■ 3 X Samsung 28inch UHD 4k Monitors at 60hz
  ■ AT2020 USB+
  ■ Oculus Rift w/Touch
  ■ Logitech G910 Keyboard & G502 Mouse Bothe RGB

I ran the default XMP and it was overclocking by 33% and when I ran Prime95 the temps did go up to low 80c but mostly were in the upper 70c and the cpu package was at 89c to 90c but I reset everything back to optimized defaults which is a 17% overclock and it never goes above 45 or 50c at most on prime95 This is on Balanced settings in corsair link though because performance is makes it sound like jet engine.

First of all, those specs are beast! Second, if you would like quieter fans for your H115i you should probably get these Noctua NF A14 fans. They are really quiet and they can push a lot of air at lower RPMs!

Anyways, the temps... generally, I would like to keep them just below 85C. Anything above that, I start dialing down the voltage.

First of all, those specs are beast! Second, if you would like quieter fans for your H115i you should probably get these Noctua NF A14 fans. They are really quiet and they can push a lot of air at lower RPMs!

Anyways, the temps... generally, I would like to keep them just below 85C. Anything above that, I start dialing down the voltage.

I'll be buying those then because it is pretty loud on balanced settings with the h115i cooler and I did some more research and found this guy and what he did: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dW6gBneg3VA&t=613s and I did exactly what he did and it doesn't go above 75c at most and did prime95 for about 3.5 hours or so and those were the temps I got too.

That's actually pretty good. I really like the way Intel manufactures those i7 extrreme. They actually solder the IHS on the chip rather than using a cheap glue and TIM. My 7700K temps are so bad that I'm going to have to delid it soon.

I know when I was running my i7 6700k it would get pretty warm especially with prime95 but that was with a 160mm water cooler also from corsair but I don't remember which one, but the temps would get in the 70c to 75c range not even overclocked at default settings but my i7 6950x won't go much above 45c on optimal default settings which on this motherboard overclocks it by 13%.
