I7 7700k vs ryzen 7 1700x

in general I would say the i7 7700k , but I would pick an i5 8600k over the i7 7700k.

I would only get the ryzen for processing programs like rendering.
Also I get the feeling in unreal engine "stuff" is optimalized for intel.

the 8700K with the Z370 mainboard is the current leader in gaming performance potential, but, unless playing at 1080P on a 144 Hz or above monitor with a GTX1080/1080Ti, you might not be able to tell the difference in 7700K/8700K or even R5-1600 performance... (for instance, using a GTX1060 or below)

a year ago the 7700K was 'The Man"! (Still have one, it still does great in games!)

Were I building a rig for gaming/general use now, I'd sure go 8700K or 8600K....; a no brainer!

If gaming not a huge concern at all (roughly GTX1030 equivalent), the new 2200G from AMD with basic integrated Vega looks awesome, saves $80-$90 on basic GPU cost
