Heatsink: Thermaltake Contac 29

CPU: Intel i7 860

Motherboard: MSI P55-GD65
Version: 1.A0 (Latest Version)

RAM: DDR3 1333mhz 4096mb
Timings: 9-9-9-24

Temp Reading Software: Realtemp

That's all the info i can pull off the top of my head, if anymore is needed, please jsut say and i'll be happy to provide some =)

On to the problem. Using Intel Turbo Boost: When idling i recieve around 22 degrees celsius which is generally speaking a very good temperature to be dealing with. When running ORTHOS for half an hour my maximum temperature was 69 degrees celsius. So clearly everything is stable. The reason i use Intel Turbo Boost is beacause, even though i have good temperatures, any time i try to overclock Bus frequency speeds past the standard 133 mhz, i recieve a BSoD. Maximum i can get is increasing to 143, at 144, not matter what my temp is, i always get a BSoD. So i went on to experiment and found what was stopping from advancing past that stage. I finally did some testing and got to my OS desktop screen with a bus speed of 191, 175 and 185 all on different occasions. Naturally the first thing i did was check the temps. On all occasions, my temperature was around 90 degrees celsius. A few seconds later, i get a BSoD.

I've even tried copying settings i've seen from other people who have the exact same set-up as me. Still BSoD!

Where does this massive jump in temperature come from? I've tried MANY different voltages all to no avail. I've reapplied Arctic Silver 5 many times and re-fitted my heatsink several times and cleaned the miniscule amount of dust in it too many time to count just to make sure everything was done correctly! I also have a good airflow throught the computer.

In short, why is my computer incapable of overclocking, when my temps are 21 degree CPU when many people can get 4ghz+ on cpu's that idle on 38 degrees+? Am i missing something?
Thanks sooo much in advance!
P.S. sorry for being a total noob! XD

EDIT: Now I'm getting BSoD's at less than 30 degrees and at Fail-Safe deafaults >_>. I really don't think this is temperature related anymore! But i can't move the thread to the Intel section. I apologize!! >.<

How are you attempting to overclock? Are you in the BIOS or using a GUI application (please say no)?

Remember, not every CPU can perform to the same level that another CPU that Joe Bob overclocked. Overclocking isn't simply just about the CPU; you need to have a decent power supply, good RAM (and speed with the ability to exceed that of stock) and a motherboard that can regulate the voltages for all these components.

Edit: Moderators can move this to the correct forum. Mods, can we get this moved?

Thanks for the reply, and yeah I'm in BIOS. The real deal XD
Now that you raise those points it's easy to understand why i probably can't everclock very well. I think it must have something to do with my power supply. I'll mess around with the voltages and see what i can pull up. Maybe it's just a matter of finding the correct voltage. Even if i can't overclock it, it'll still be better than myt previous build :kaola:
By the way, thanks for the swift reply! I think i'll be using this forum alot more often =)
