Question i7-8750H high frequency on idle.

I have the Gigabyte Sabre 15 with the i7-8750H hex-core processor. It has cooling problems with the CPU because unless I manually lower the maximum processor state, it will hover between 2.6 and 3.9 GHZ on idle with resulting higher temperatures and noise. If I limit this down to something like 40% it will then sit at around 800mhz when I'm doing stuff like web browsing, and the temperatures are much lower and the laptop is quieter. I want to know how to configure the laptop so that the CPU doesn't try to turbo boost all the time and will actually go into an idle state properly. Thanks for any help.

Hello,

Check your operating system's power management settings, for windows , it should be "Balanced" not "High Performance". It just makes cpu operate at maximum speed even when idle, does not increase performance actually anyway.

If it's windows 10 you may need to go to the old Control Panel and check power settings. Also latest update may have bugged the power plans.
