I recently acquired the i7-970 processor and am trying to install it but when it is all done my computer starts up for a second or two then shuts down to once again turn on. Nothing powers up during this such as my mouse and keyboard and my monitor does not seem to notice.

I'm using the DX58SO motherboard and am worried that the I7-970 is simply not compatible with it even though it seems like the two should be made for eachother...as it so clearly says on both boxes.

I have updated the bios via the intel site and so far nothing is working.

Have you seated the heatsink properly? Is your PSU providing enough power to handle your components? Staying with power, are all the required power connections in place? Lastly, are you running the latest BIOS available for that motherboard? One thing is for sure, that motherboard surely supports the i7 970.

Well I currently have the I7-960 in my computer and all works fine. I have installed the processor twice (one without the bios being updated and the other after) and both times I ran into the same issue where the computer would start for about 2-3 seconds (nothing loading though) then shutdown just to start back up and keep running while nothing would load. Everything seems fine as there are no beeps or any sort of sound going on. I would take out the i7-970 and replace it with my 960 and my computer would start right up and act like normal.

I have updated the bios at http://downloadcenter.intel.com and unless im mistaken on how to update the bios that is the only thing I have done bios wise.

As for all the aux power and such being connected does this processor require more power or something?

Before I had the site automatically find the update and do it but this time I searched for it and found this
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20076&ProdId=3018&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%2C%2064-bit*&DownloadType=BIOS
how do I know if this even makes the 970 work on the motherboard?

Hmm I might have found the problem. Seems the link I was given by intel (once I got the processor) says it will update your drivers and BIOS but the download for bios is not on there so it is not one of the things I updated apparently. So when I 100% for sure know I updated the BIOS and try the processor once again ill post here.

*Thanks for all the help
