I7-970 / i7-2600K

I have two computers. One with the i7-970 and Asus Rampage III Extreme 24GB memory and one with i7 2600K and Asus Maximus IV Extreme 16Gb memory. One should be gaming, the other a little gaming but mostly database / server. Which processor recommend to gaming?

Both are excellent for gaming, but currently the i7 2600k is better for gaming (until games are multithreaded well enough to take advantage of more than 4 cores)

as above said both are great for gaming. either would be overkill for a home server.
so i would pick the 1 that uses the least current while idling for the server. which i think would be the 2600k
