Question I9 9900k or i7 9700k for gaming

Hi guys I have got a msi z390 board with 2666 ddr4 16gb of ram just wondering which cpu would be the a good gaming cpu and day to day normal use . Thanks

They are both practically the same in gaming. In some games the 9700 actually beats the bigger more powerful 9900 in some games.

Considering the 9700k is cheaper, and it's the same performance mostly, it's a no brainer. I'd take the 9700k for use scenario.

8 cores and threads may not be as smooth as a 9900k, but it will not stutter like you are thinking.

IMO, I'll go for 9700k and probably upgrade the ram to DDR4-3200Mhz

Yep thanks and a cougar vortex 600w brozen would be enough to power this beast up I have got a gigabyte rtx 2060 card as well . Or do.i need to upgrade.

I would not put that PSU in that PC. There's a reason it's cheap. If you want to risk damaging components with it, then that's your call. Getting a decent PSU is always advisable for a mid-high gaming system.

You should look at an EVGA G2/G3 650w, Corsair RMX, Seasonic Focus Plus to put in there. Don't cheap out on the PSU, you will regret it.

I would take the 9700K. The 9900K is fine but the extra threads wont really give you extra performance. As for the RAM kit, 2666 is fine. Intel's architectures barely benefit from higher RAM speeds and timings.

This is all fairly mute. A 2060 isn’t strong enough to utilise the extra performance of a 9900k or allow you to differentiate between a 8700k/9700k.

The difference between the 2 is negligible in both average and minimum FPS. I see no reason why a 9700k would not be as ‘smooth’? Especially when paired with a 2060. There are even a few game benchmarks where the 9700k edges aheads.

Likely due to ht overhead. I could see it not being as snooth in core dependent games, but its unlikely to be noticed.

Another question is what exact MSI motherboard do you have and what cpu cooler? The 9900k is a beast and needs a motherboard with excellent VRM’s and high end cooling. It’s a shame you already have the 2060, you would see far greater benefit from going for the 9700k and higher end gpu.
