I just bought a new IBM 75GB 75GXP harddrive. I installed it as a slave to my current HD (Maxtor 80GB), and it wasn't recognized, so I took out my Maxtor and set the IBM as master, and it still wasn't recognized. I tried it with cable select as well. Still no luck. I am using it on the end of the IDE Cable with the Blue end attached to the motherboard. When I turn the system on, the drive seems to spin because it vibrates a bit. It also gets pretty warm.

Any suggestions?

Are you setting the jumpers correctly? The label has jumper settings for a variety of drives; make sure you're setting it right. If so, are any of the pins damaged?

I've tried just about every jumper setting, and none of the pins are damaged. There are settings for 16 cylinder mode, 15cylinder mode, auto-spin off mode, and 32Gig Clip mode. I've tried pretty much all combinations of all of those.

I would first suggest reviewing the jumper settings for master/slave/cable select. Then replacing the ribbon cable outright.

Now, if these possible solutions don't address the issue, then perhaps one of your power supply cables is faulty.

Hopefully, it won't come down to a situation where you're dealing with a drive that is a DOA case, e.g.; a shorted out circuit board.

Good luck 🙂
