Today my IBM 180GXP 120GV 7200rpm 8mb ata100 drive arrived. So i tried partition magic 8 and fdisk on the winXPpro cd. But all recognize the disk as 8,4 GB.

- So i updated my bios, which didn't have any effect (hardware settings below).
- I tried http://service.boulder.ib...tech/ibmftool-install.exe this tool to set the size correctly which didn't want to change the size.
- This is what the bios finds as user, it doesn't autodetect for some reason.
cycls nu 16334
head nu 16
precomp nu 0
sector nu 63
mode nu ON
size 8430
landz 16334

- Checked the jumpers:

the top image is how they are atm.

This is my mainboard:

I have 40GB & 30GB disks here that work without any problem. But the 120GB disk keeps being recognized as 8.4 GB.
Can anyone help me out here?

If you have flashed your BIOS to the Newest/latest version (Which I noticed is dated as last updated in Feb 2002) and the Bios still does not see the the full HD capacity, There is a limit at 137GB (if I remember correctly) due to 48 bit addressing on drives larger than 120GB, for the older hardware then you may have to go to the HD Manufacturers site http://www.hgst.com/hdd/support/download.htm and grab the "Feature Tool" to fix your problem.

Well my bios is even newer AMI F8 (28/06/02)
I already tried that tool, but unfortunatelly it doesn't correct the filesize.

I'll check for the exact msg it gives me now.

Did you enable LBA (Logical Block Addressing) mode in BIOS. It's needed to see HD's capacity that is exceeding 8.4GB.

 Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.
