[citation][nom]milktea[/nom]Now the Gemini specs seems more reasonable than the iPad. The Android OS and replaceable battery are big plus. Why would anyone settle for an iPad is beyond me. Somebody needs to teach Apple how to build a mobile device.[/citation]Apple has no intention of building a device that you'll want past the next version of that same device: no replaceable battery, fixed storage amount, limited feature set at release, even though they have the next two iterations of added features in their plans for new releases on the drawing board. They've always had less in the hardware department when compared to the alternatives, but because it's an apple product, everyone including those of a certain 24 hr news station in the US are completely enamoured with anything that apple puts out. I hope Toms is a little more objective, I like this site and it's content for the most part.

This is the type of thing that will mount nicely on my Blazer because of the GPS+Google Maps+3G/Edge navigation while at the same time listen to some aol radio or shout cast through aux connection or watch video of the ipad getting smashed to bits on youtube on the go while im driving 😀.....GIVE ME ONE!!!

Nice features. I am really amazed at the amount of features that the iPad doesn't have though. No phone , can't do sms, mms, no SD slot , radio, camera, 3rd party usb support, no stereo speakers, no HD video, a max resolution of 1024x768, no 16:9 aspect ratio, no GPS and integrated ram and chipset. No wonder Apple got their tablet on the market fast. It's probably now or never.

[citation][nom]mianmian[/nom]The spec looks great. But tablet things need good contents and apps. Wish android could do well on this one.[/citation]

No they dont, they need good operating systems that allow you to take full advantage of the mobility and versatility of the platform... I actually think with the right interface Win 7 will be the best choice giving you the best range of 'apps,' or programs as they used to be called, possible.

The specs sound really nice on this. This could be really useful for law enforcement, medical fields, outdoor recreational use, home theater, and educational purposes.

I tinkered with the iPad at a local retailer (who doesn't deserve the free publicity), I was less than impressed with it.

It doesn't do anything my Asus 1201N can't and does a whole lot less costing more.

Sounds way more functional and should have plenty of open source applications for it for practically anything you can imagine unlike the Ipad. It would be nicer if it were windows, but Linux is still a better alternative than some proprietary Mac OS.

Price? If it is cheaper than the iPad I may get one...

All depends on the price... for $400 without a contract you can count me in.

Now, the next steps:

Get lots of hype going, get an easy to use ebook program or have a good Google Books program, make it simple enough that even the least tech savvy person can use it, and have it at least match the Ipad in pricing.

Converting older games like Half Life and UT2004 to the tablet would be nice as well.

The key things will be the ease of use and marketing.

[citation][nom]dman3k[/nom]Tegra2 = best mobile chipset available nowSo I want one...[/citation]
For a tablet or even a portable gaming system this is probably true. But (at least at these clock speeds) its a bit too power hungry for a phone.

scale it down sell it for $200 and call it a Gemini mini and i'll buy it

"Tegra2 = best mobile chipset available now"

I agree all the way.

This thing could really give the joojoo and iPad a run for their money. An open source OS? I think so.
