IceWind Dale Freeze up

I have a problem with Icewind Dale. When I've defeated Poquelin and been
teleported back to Easthaven, the game says "paused for movie" but it
never unfreezes. Characters just stand there, nothing happens.

Has anyone else encountered this? What's the solution?

The "Return to Easthaven" movie should have played. That movie (return.mve)
is inside mvefile2.bif, which should be in C:\Program Files\Black
Isle\Icewind Dale\CD2\data if you did a full install. Try copying it over
again from the second disc under \CD2\data.

Check to see if you can play the movie manually. From the game's main menu,
click on movies, select Return to Easthaven, click play. If it is not in
the list, add RETURN=1 under [Movies].

The movie does play but when it ends the game is frozen. Should I still try
to play the movie or is it something else?

Possibly you have a corrupt AR1100 in your cache. You can delete all files
in C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Icewind Dale\cache\data, then try again.

Okay. Deleted all files in cache. Still freezes.

Thanks.

Try uninstalling, then reinstalling and repatching. Your saved games will
still be there. If it still doesn't work, you might have a corrupt saved
game.

You can also ask for help with this at the Ironworks IWD&HOW Forum:

This is a well-known problem. Trouble is it's so long since I played IWD
I've forgotten the solution. Suggest you look for it in the Google Groups
archive for this newsgroup or the much smaller IWD one.
