I am getting a new computer, so my kids are going to get my old one. I want to update the video card so we can play some more current games. Currently it had a 9800 GTX+ in it..

I was thinking 750Ti or a 950 I am open to ideas (would like to stay nvidia... my budget is anywhere from $100-$150 US

system:
I7-920
ASUS P6T rev1.01
6 Gb Kingston Hyper x DDR3 1600 (only shows 1033 during boot)
Samsung 840 EVO 500Gb HD
PurePower 600NP
Windows 10

I would not mind having to turn down setting for them but I would like decent frame rates.
Thank you in advance.

750 is nice, 950 too, but why not AMD ? Anyway, if you would like raise budget, you can get 760, that´s nice card too.

the gtx 950 is the best option at that budget

just make sure that power supply has a free 6-pin pcie cable

if it does not then get a gtx 750 ti that does not need 6-pin from the power supply

It has 2 x 6-Pin, so you can go dual GPU :) You are clear to go ^^

I have never had an AMD card before, I know nothing about them other than you don't need a "heater" if you run one.. I guess what I am saying is stick with what you know.
forgive me I am new to posting on forums.

If i could add to this is why?
why would AMD be better?

I think that some of AMD cards have same price as some of NVidia, but AMD runs just better. Like this, when you take 960 and R9 380, the R9 wins. AMDs aren´t ovens or grills, that´s just a non-funny joke... I have friends with R9s, Furys and they said that they won´t come back to Nvidia. If you got great cooling and nice airflow in case, you don´t have to be scared of buying AMD. In future, i´ll be heading for AMD, but as i say, it´s your choice ^^
