If I stop a hard drive backup will I have to restart all over when I resume the backup?

So, Im upgrading my motehrboard and I need to backup my hard drive. But it is taking MUCH longer than I anticipated. Its been 10 Hours and its only backed up about 200 gigs worth of stuff. It is currently about half way through my steam library and I forget to uninstall some games beforehand that I REALLY don't want to take the 5+ hours to copy over games that I have no intention of playing.

Can I stop the backup, uninstall games that i dont want to backup, and resume the backup?

You'd have to start over.

EDIT: This depends. What are you using to 'back up'?

It very much depends upon the backup software you are using. You don't even tell us which Operating System you have, so a guess would be useless.
