What exactly is your purchase budget?
Is raytracing a must have feature for you?
If not counting raytracing, then
7800XT is ~150% performance compared to 3060 ti,
7900 XT is ~ 200% performance compared to 3060 ti.
I was trying to stay at $1000 or less including a protection plan (say what you will, that saved me a lot of hassle and headache when my 55" Sceptre bit the dust two months out of warranty)...
The new cards will be worse than the ones that exist now.
See, that's one reason I'm not sure I should wait. More recently, it seems the newer cards have only modest performance increases for as much or more than their predecessors, a trend that only seems to continue as time goes on. Most 6900 XTs I'm seeing are almost as pricey as the 7900 XT / XTX.
UPDATE:
As I said earlier, I found a
Sapphire Nitro+ Special Edition RX 6900 XT (more or less a factory overclock that can possibly be further tweaked) on Amazon for just over $800 and with a 4-year-protection plan (Sapphire's warranty info is somewhat sketchy, instructing to contact dealer / reseller, and Amazon does not do warranty replacement), it came to just about $1,000.
I guess I can live with that. For the peace of mind knowing it's covered for 4 years, I don't think I could have done better on a brand-new card in terms of availability and all the latest deals selling out before I can grab them. The XFX 7900 XTX was actually a bit more than I wanted to spend ($1,300 with protection plan), and once I was enlightened to their long-term reliability issues....
Some might say this is too expensive, but the truth is, most 6900 XTs I've found were similarly priced, even used (when I could find them). The only suitable 7900 XT / XTX I could find was the XFX, which I've been more or less warned may not go the distance.
All that said, with a 60-hz 75" display, I don't need insane FPS, just consistent 60 fps with higher resolution and detail. My RTX3060ti could hit 60 fps at low to medium detail in 4k, so I should think the Nitro 6900 is sufficient for my needs, and probably a better deal in the long run for now.
