Hi, Does anyone know of an adapter/enclosure which i can use to connect a Crucial P3 Plus SSD 4TB M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen4 Internal SSD to a sata connection on my old HP Elite book laptop.
It will not be used to contain an operating system but just to store files. It would be connected to the SATA connection currenly occupied by the DVD drive. Thanks in advance.

You can buy a usb external case to put the m.2 drive inside and use it as a normal external hard drive.

Alternatively, you can buy a pcie internal card that plugs into the motherboard pcie slot and the m.2 drive connects onto the internal card out of the way.

Thank you for the reply. On further investigation I think I will be stuck with your first option as the laptop is almost of the vintage variety and doesn't have much expansion optoptions of the motherboard type. It serves my purposes well enough but I thought if there an enclosure which would take the nvme and allow me to plug it into a SATA drive connection I would be able to get it operating inside the laptop. Thanks again.

Just make sure if you buy a usb external that the usb cable suits your old system. Some enclosures have a USB-C connector, which your old system would unlikely have. It would have the standard usb socket. A bit of homework before buying to eliminate having to buy another cable or adapter 🙂

Thanks KingLoki. You are correct. My laptop does not have a USB-C connector. Currently I have the NVME housed in a USB-A enclosure and it works fine when connected to a USB port. As I said earlier I just wanted to get it inside the laptop but I think that is a pipe dream at this stage
