Question I'm wondering which motherboard to get with the 12th gen cpu I got

Hi. I got a 12th gen intel core iy-12700K LGA1700 CPU around three years ago. Only to realize my current motherboard isn't compatible with this CPU. I don't know too deeply about PC hardware.

My current motherboard wasn't exactly a cheap low budget one, it has options in the BIOS for overclocking RAM and the CPU.

May someone please help me figure out which motherboard I should get for this CPU?

Firstly, just to point out, your ram in your current config is not running at it's XMP speed. Its running at 2133mhz. Your ram can actually run at 3200mhz. So there is some performance left there to get out of your current system.

For the 12700k, any good B760 based mobo would be fine.

Now, your chip is a 'k' suffix CPU. So it's overclockable. If you don't want to OC the CPU, then the mobo above is fine. If you do want to OC the CPU then a Z790 would be better. But they are more expensive.

The Tomohawk above is quality. There are cheaper ones too. You just want to make sure they have enough power phases/VRM setup that can handle the CPU. They do run warm, so a new CPU cooler will be needed.

Edit: Ooops. I've mistakenly chosen a DDR5 mobo. You have DDR4 Ram, which you could re-use (but is very slow). So @logainofhades suggestion is very strong.

Seconded. I have both the Mini-ITX and ATX DDR4 versions of that board. No issues with either.

WiFi card might be going out on the Mini-ITX, but that wouldn't be the first time I have had an Intel WiFi module burn out on me, they are cheap to replace.

The make/model of your psu will be shown on the data plate.
Likely it is ATX format in which case the rear dimensions will be 86mm x 140mm. The length can vary.
It is the max wattage that can vary, it is also on the data plate.
The 12700K does not come with a cooler.

Z270-A PRO is ATX board.
So basically any ATX, mATX and mITX board will be compatible with your pc case.
