Yes, the keyboard is faster. But which of these two is faster?
(1) Keyboard only
(2) Keyboard + mouse + touch

Since the Keyboard speed is the same for both, option 2 must be faster. Thus, Win8 has the potential, and is, faster than 7. If you don't have touch? Mouse for 8 is still faster.

Your logic is seriously flawed.

Are you REALLY so stupid? or you just trolling?
I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume the latter.

Which means I will not stoop so low as to engage a troll. If you really do not have the wit to identify the flaw in your argument.. I will just say..
"I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent"
Cheers

I dont just hate the 'modern ui'(which really looks like something out of the 80s), i find it offensive in every way.

Once there is an option to completely uninstall(or not install) the metro UI, i will consider windows 8. Until that day it will never be installed on any system i own.

Well, are you still trying to make a point? Even if you are "talking with a troll", if you don't explain your point, you fail.

Even if one were to make an incredibly stupid point, it is still valid as an argument. Any and all comments simply refuting it without argument is the "troll".

Finally, "you won't steep so low"!? You took the bother to write hate and insults, but didn't bother with explaining your stance. It consider that far lower.

I'll do it for him:

Because if the keyboard is actually faster, than by using other methods of input such as the screen and mouse any more than absolutely necessary, one ends up with a much slower input method - especially considering the time taken to switch between methods. If one ends up favoring the keyboard to the point that it's as fast as using the keyboard alone, then one would simply be using the keyboard alone.

It's like drinking - taking a shot will get you drunk quicker than pouring that shot into a glass of water.

OK, looks like I need to explain more.

I never said that you should decrease the amount of work you do on your keyboard. However much you love your keyboard though, you still need to use the mouse at times, however infrequent it may be. Win 8 makes that mouse (or touch) a lot quicker than before.

Can you elaborate on those "delays"?

Ignoring the under hood speed improvements, overall windows 8 and the "modern" theme create larger icons and stuff, while providing the same amount of info as before. This makes a bigger target to click/touch, making mouse operations easier, and quicker.

At least it is so for me and my friends.

That's it. Downloading Ubuntu now. Keeping windows 7 for windows-only applications like some games. And waiting for a new company to get us a new OS. Maybe some should find a way to put a Mac OS on my PC, I don't know, but God I hate Microsoft now. They couldn't care less about their customers, they don't have to, people keep buying crap. Good for you if you enjoy.

And for some comments I saw 'bout "Google should make an OS, Microsoft would crash", you're right, but Google's OS may not be better. For the sake of customers, liberty and efficiency, Firefox OS (should be available soon on phones) or any other POPULAR Unix-based OS (or a completely new OS for that matter) would sooo great

Oh I love these "Microsoft hates customers" comments.

Answer this seriously please. What if, just if, Microsoft made Windows 8 an improved version of Win7? What if the only improvement was under hood performance boosts and a few petty features? Will you spend $100+ on something exactly the same as before!? I bet you won't, and neither will I or many many customers.

As with any free capitalist market company, Microsoft must make profits. In order to do so, if decided that they needed something new, that would collect more new customers at the expense of losing traditional uncompromising tech minded customers. So by sheer number, Microsoft does care about customers.

Oh, it's not an anti-capitalist comment. I know that money is involved, either in Microsoft, Google or Firefox's OS. I just think that Microsoft has been the only player for so long, it can ignore customers. And ignore good upgrades. They don't "hate" customers. I believe that in fact, Windows 8 is customer-oriented. It just doesn't meets universal needs.

When someone hates GM, they can buy Ford. and they'll know that their trailer will fit on either vehicle. We, customers, don't have a choice. Would I buy a user-friendly, Microsoft-compatible OS, if it suit my needs? Yes. Would I spend $100 on a "windows 7.1" if I was to buy a new OS anyway? Yes. Would I upgrade from 7.0 to 7.1 for, say, $30? Again, yes. That's what my last paragraph, in my previous post, is about

But here, Microsoft offers only one product, Window 8. And even with all the critics, they persist to offer only a version more suited, in my opinion, to tablets and phones. So to upgrade speed, efficiency, and such, I go to Ubuntu, which can be customized. And because many products are only compatible with Windows, I keep my old Windows 7. I don't "hate" Microsoft (EDIT: I know, previous post said "I hate Microsoft", should have said "Windows 8"), I just think that the more people on other OS, the more chance we have to see a great OS concurrence Windows. And then, both OS will progress faster, because they'll have to put more efforts into it.

So build a hackintosh, if you truely dislike windows so much.

I personally like windows 8 just fine - I've made it adjust to me a little and I've adjusted to it a little. (This is after installing it on clean builds a dozen times, at minimum.) Is it as nice as windows 7? Possibly not, though it does have a LOT of little features that I like. I actually use both 8 and 7 - windows 7 is my multiple-workstation OS, windows 8 is my gaming OS, and Linux Mint is my get-stuff-done OS. They're all on the same computer, and it works just wonderfully. We're past the time when any operating system can be truly universal - everybody has different, specific needs. Some people like windows 8, some people don't.

A bit late I'm afraid. Fact is, I'm perfectly happy with Win 7, it achieves all I need it to achieve,

When its does not meet my needs, then I'll consider a new O/S , but until then, nope. Having said that, I would not be surprised if 8 has been superseded by the time that comes.

Is 8.1 a real update or have M$ just decided to move away from regular online updates and service packs?

What about its NETWORK. has that been fixed so you can browse to the network shares from ANY other network capable device or system and not have to switch to UPnP/DLNA media options. I dont know about you lot but i dont just use my network setups for movies and music.

I cant use W8 or 8.1 unless M$ fix all the issues with smb SAMBA/NAS/CIFS. We have 4 Movie players all of which have major issues browsing W8 shares and a Network NAS Drive that W8 does not want to talk to.

There were a few issues with W7 but at least with W7 it was easily fixed by changing some network options and settings to work. sadly those options and settings have been removed from W8, no so-called fix to-date has worked.

other than the network issue i like W8 as its Fast and reliable just a shame i have to use XBMC to access the movies.

Also Transfer speeds should be higher on UPnP/DLNA yet i get Lag/Skippy playback if more than 1 person is accessing movies on the W8 Rig using XBMC not to mention things like switching audio source and subtitles on/off never seemed to work with UPnP/DLNA, Windows UPnP was a little better but would not play some movies that work just fine over standard smb on W7.

bring on Windows9/10

My [StartMenu] of choice is also ClassicShell for the extras it has over the other tools ive tried.

Well only one way to see if the network issues have been sorted is to try it, So

except all but the Blademedia are SMB compatible and can access SMB shares on WindowsXP/2000/Win7 and Linux, 1-WDTVLive 2xSumvisionLive all on latest Firmware.
if you google "windows 8 smb issues" you will see its a common problem on Win8 since M$ updated the SMB modules, and the only real fix is to use UPnP/DLNA and thats NOT a fix.

Am testing it on my fysical laptop snd am still missing a decent startmenu. Second, offie 2013 7s also a big disadvantage. Saving or printing takes more time
