Sorry, for me Windows 8 is just plain wrong for desktop use on too many levels. They tried to force a 'one size fits all' approach to a place it doesn't belong for serious work (i.m.h.o.).
Add in the attempt to lock you in to the 'walled garden" approach to program purchase, the aesthetically challenged graphics style, the attempt to eventually remove the desktop, they all rub me the wrong way. I could go on and on.
Windows 8.1 still doesn't have a real start menu so I still can't avoid the 'metro' interface if I want to (without going through hoops or finding a 3rd party program).
I've tried Windows 8, and hated it with a passion because it was counter-productive for me. Without a a real start-menu, 8.1 doesn't go far enough to fix that.
