Greetings!
So I have TWC internet and live on the east coast of US. For 5 or 6 hours at a time I will have brilliant internet speeds of 37.2+ Mbps and upload of 5-6 Mbps. Seemingly randomly, the speed will TANK to somewhere from 0.1 Mbps to 2.0 Mbps while the upload will stay consistent at 5-6 Mbps. This will stay like this for a few hours or perhaps through the entire rest of the day/night. There also appears to be significant jitter (300-600??). Keep in mind that the signal strength remains at 100% throughout all of this on wireless and the connection is never dropped. And this also still occurs while wired in.
This is affecting 3 laptops/desktops and 3 smartphones equally. We are not downloading or streaming excessively and only use our internet for games (5 hours on a "heavy use" day) and the random bit of streaming (2-3 hours on a "heavy use" day). This has happened at least once a day for the past month and didn't seem to occur prior to the start of this month.
4 days ago I replaced the (quite old loaner) modem from TWC with a new shiny Motorola Arris and also got a new Linksys 1200AC+. I have experience with correct setup for routers. For 2 days following the new setup, the Internet was amazing! Nothing cutout no loss of connection, not download speed dropping. Just 37.20 Mbps all day for two days straight. I thought I had solved the issue! But now it is back with a vengeance. The Internet is virtually unusable on any device.
Is this possibly throttling? Is this possibly a faulty wire or connection to my building?
TLDR: inconsistent Internet (wireless and plugged) that goes from 37 Mbps to 1 Mbps for hours at a time.
