Incorrect Monitor Display Resolution?

When it comes to resolution and monitors/displays I don't have a clue. I did some research and I now I know that my Aver H236HL 23" monitor has a 1920 x 1080 resolution, however when I switch my computer display to that I lose about an inch off each side of my screen, can someone explain how to fix this or what is causing this?

Do you have an AMD or Nvidia graphics card? If you have an AMD graphics card and you have catalyst control center installed go to the "My Digital Flat-Panel" tab and click "scaling options". Then make sure that the scaling options slider is set all the way to the right.
