i'm runnning avast 4.6 home edition and zonealarm free. all of the sudden,
windows started reporting that neither of them is working/installed (even
though they are up and running; no problems were reported before with the
same two programs). how can i identify the source of this incorrect reporting?

Hello Hanze,
If you are running Windows firewall with Zone Alarm the two conflict.
You could also try going to Add-remove Programs and see if one of them has a
change option. That will repair a program most times. Where is windows
reporting this problem. From a log? Pop up window? Let us know how you are
doing.

Well if all programs are running ok and a virus check is clear. You could
keep an eye on everything. Is Zone Alarm protecting you? If so, fine. I am
not sure what avast home is. Could ou give a bit more info please? I have to
leave for a while but I will be checking in as often as I can. I am sure
someone in the group will see your post. Ron ps: zone alarm has a log
you can get by running search+ Zone Alarm and some versions have a firewall
log you can click on. If you can find those logs it would be a big help.

i couldnt find any logs...

avast home is the avast antivirus (www.avast.com)

i think the problem is the reporting, not the security software; like i
said, security center reported no problems yesterday with the same
configuration.
