Hello there! As title says just today I misclicked the shutdown button in windows and instead pressed the shutdown and update. Well now i'm not sure which update was that(probably anniversary?) but it took around 20 mins and the pc had to restart various times. Well since then my system uses more RAM, it went from an 8% to a 14% usage in task manager, I do have 16gb. Is that normal? WOuld it be better to roll back befre that update?

It wasn't an update, its a new version of Win 10. That explains the multiple restarts.
I wouldn't roll back, its probably faster to work out whats using extra ram. Is the extra ram being used actually slow you down at all? Win 10 is pretty good at managing ram so you should never feel its effects.

Because Microsoft like to do such things to you with there updates.
Just kidding, windows will be using it, so as long as you still have enough free ram to use other programs or play games without it effecting performance it should be fine.
It`s likely MS did it to try and improve some things in windows and the performance of it by using slightly more system memory for its self when loaded into memory.

if you only upgraded in last few days, its possible its running extra services that will eventually stop running and return you to normal. expect it needs to install apps from store and recreate indexing.
We don't know what is using the extra so its hard to guess if its helping or not. I am not sure how we go about figuring out whats using the extra bits. My usage sits on about 21%

If you run it, run it as admin so its got full access, and you need to look at the Working set column as that is ram actually being used by the process, Private bytes are the total of ram + page file being used by the process

Alright then i'll wait and see if the RAM goes to default values since I just updated today and only monitored it during that session.
I also want to add that I'm not coming from windows 7, this windows 10 was installed fresh about 1 year ago on this pc and also the pagefile was always turned off since i can remember cause I have an ssd. The RAM jump only happened after today update

Win 10 uses ram differently, it only uses the page file if its got no choice. When you close a program, it doesn't close it completely and instead compresses it into ram in case you want to open it again, as its much faster to load from ram than even the fastest ssd so far. This system works fine as most people have plenty of ram now and won't notice it getting filled up like this.
If you play a game that uses a large amount of your ram, and system needs the ram that the compressed programs were in, then win 10 will start moving the compressed programs back onto the hdd, into the page file. Now if you have no page file, Win 10 has no where to put this information and you likely get an out of memory error and crash.
My PC has a system managed page file, its max size could be 16gb but its actually only just 1gb. It doesn't take all the space if it doesn't need it. I don't see the point in not having one as its a safety blanket for the times you do use all your ram.

I disabled the pagefile cause i followed the tomshw guide on ssd and since no one ever helped me to move the pagefile in a different HDD I never bothered with it again.
I thing i understand What you are trying to say but as I Told you before i didn't open any program and so I don't see how They could be already in ram.
Anyways since we are here, May I ask you how to effectively disable cortana? It always stays in the background :\

I am using a local account, even though I don't use her(it) the app still sits there using 49mb. Its less than she uses if I used a Microsoft login.

I remember reading somewhere not that long ago that one of the upcoming windows 10 updates will disable RAM compression on systems with 4gb or more RAM to improve performance. This might be what you're experiencing.

Alright I had a bit of time today and tested again the things. It appears that the ram usage is back at 8% so it's all good but what pisses me off is that the OS downloaded even gpu driver -_-. Seriously what the hell? I wasn't remotely ready to change my drivers due to laziness and barely any time since I had to install that DDU thing too. I can't even find my old drivers (358.1) on nvidia site. Anyone remember if the 369.1 drivers caused any problems to the gpu or in some games?
Also I've almost forgot to mention that the system forced me another update while shutting off -__- . Can you even disable these updates? They do seem to do nothing good for me

14292 is the insider build, I am not using insider so that is why I saw it still compressed memory.
win 10 downloaded one driver for my GPU, I then right clicked the icon in task bar and choose to update driver, it loaded me onto geforce experience page where I downloaded it instead and have used it ever since to download drivers whenever I want to.
