inspiron 1545 dc jack damaged, need power on asap, want to splice charger cable to damaged dc connector on power cirtcuit boar

Have a dell Inspiron 1545 laptop and the DC jack (in 19.5v/3.3~4.4a) on the power board is damaged and I don't have an original charger cable but I have a charger (out 20v/2a) for another laptop with a different connector at the end l. can I cut the connector tip, it has the same three wires like a Dell and wire them directly to the back of the dc jack on the power board connector?

Yes you can solder it. But i suggest to not to sold is directly if your ac jack.is damaged so you can buy new jack and unplug and plug new jack. Inside your laptop.

Few things about dells.

Some are a wired to the motherboard some are soldiered. In your case soldiered but also in your case it is on a daughter board. I would sped the 16 bucks here

Why? I have attempted to soldier on dell jacks before and they are a pain. Why? Because they are NOT like any of the other laptop jacks. Dells have a 3rd connector. The power is actually delivered thought he outside and inside of the route plug. The pin the middle is actually to detect the actual charger. If you do not soldier this on correctly it will NOT detect that 3rd pin and WILL not charge and you WILL be stuck at half CPU power because if it can't detect the AC Adapter it will do charger or over power the CPU. This was an issue back in the day of people using aftermarkets, having batteries blow, and then people trying to sue.

Now if you are talking about the jack on the end of AC adapter then same applies.

Also you really want to get the same voltage. Most Dells need at least 65 Watts, which this one does 65 or 90 (19.5*3.3 and 19.5*4.4) where as the other only does 40 watts and when it comes to dell's i ALWAYS recommended OEM Chargers as the aftermarket one's tend to not work as well.
