On my WinXP computer, with a Radeon 9800 Pro card, I wanted to update the drivers. So I installed the 2013 version of the Catalyst Control Center. It installed ok, my Add/Remove Software shows the AMD Catalyst Install Manager but nothing else from AMD. There is no desktop icon or toolbar icon that would let me open up this control center and adjust things. And looking in Device Manager, the driver for the Radeon 9800 Pro is the same one that was there before the installation. There is a folder where I specified it, and it seems to have the CCC folders and files in place.

So what to do? How else can I confirm if the CCC is actually installed and how can I access it?

Try right clicking on your desktop; AMD Catalyst Control Center should appear on the menu. It should also be buried in the Start Menu somewhere, under All Programs (if I remember rightly).

Right clicking on the desktop shows nothing. Looking in the START/PROGRAMS also doesn't show anything for AMD or Catalyst. I have NET Framework 2-4 installed, but not 1. Could that be a problem?

I looked again at the installed directory and it's folders...it sure looks like an installed program, lots of folders and files. There's a dotnetfx folder and dotnetfx.msi and dotnetfx.exe files. I'm tempted to run them but don't want to mess up the NETFramework 2-4 that are installed. Any ideas about this?

Hmm, okay. I'm not certain now. It's quite some time since I used Windows XP so I'm a little hazy on the details. Do you have an AMD Catalyst icon in the notification area of the task bar, next to the time? If so, that can be used to access CCC (I think).

Also, clicking on the dotnetfx files probably won't do anything if they are already installed. Installing version 1 after later versions won't cause any problems, but I don't think it's needed for CCC anyway.

Other than that, all I can think to suggest is un-installing the current driver - try using http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html to do it. Then re-install and select custom (if it's available on the 2013 version) to make sure Catalyst Control Center is selected.

Hope this helps.

I tried running the Display Driver Uninstaller, then after rebooting I installed the CCC again. Did it the Custom way, but same result. Other than the installed folder and files, no sign of the CCC anywhere.

Any more ideas?

Try going to here http://support.amd.com/en-us/download and find Automatically Detects and Download Drivers, once you find that download the file. I think its round 3-5 mb. Run the file and if it shows you to download just DOWNLOAD IT WITHOUT HESITATION. After downloading a new window SHOULD appear and install all of it.
It should appear like this http://oi64.tinypic.com/ampnoi.jpg
That should work because it helped me for this problem. Now you can locate it easily without any problem.
