Hello- I've been beating my head against the wall over this for sometime now and can not seem to come to a conclusion as to why this is happening.

Hardware;
Asus Crosshair Formula V
AMD 8350 FX
Patriot Viper Black edition 1866 x16 GB (x2 8GB)
7970 OC edition Gigabyte
1000W OCZ PSU

Windows 10 64bit

Ok; so whats going on is that I have 16 GB installed and windows acknowledges this- however it only reads 7.95 as total physical memory

Things I have tried;
MEMTEST64 - no errors
CHKDSK- no errors

Enabling Memory remapping in BIOS
Enable max memory in MSCONFIG

none of these things have fixed this issue and I have grown weary of what this could be.

I game alot on this computer and I believe this is root of some recent issues I have been experiencing; after about 20 minutes of gameplay- I drop from a solid 60+ fps to 0 momentarily and then it resumes- a simple reboot fixes this everytime- though after another 20 minutes or so I have to reboot again- this is where I seem to think RAM is causing the issue as it may not be enough being utilized? or is not dumping properly

Also, not sure if it is worth mentioning- but I have a paging file setup on another HDD at around 16GB

Thank you for any help with this- it is much appreciated

Solution
Well we tried basically everything, I've never yet seen this not be the solution to this problem. And based on your past issue i would recommend against messing around in msconfig.
So you can make any user on PC and after 30 days, you can change password on the Microsoft account and then link it to new user... if the repair install doesn't work.

But if you changed password today, and have to wait 30 days, you might be better just copying everything you want to keep on C drive, change boot order so USB is first, hdd second, and fresh install win 10 using that USB. Follow this step by step guide that should answer any questions you have: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-windows-10-clean-install.html

then make a user not linked to your email address so you can use it now, and then Rogue Leader can try to fix the ram problem

Sorry didnt think references would be a problem- apologies

I appreciate the help, but at this point, i just to be able to use my pc again- i went from an annoying issue to fatal error so i dont really care about that anymore- I'll build a new one when ever i get a chance, but until then 8 bg is better then no system at all

Ok, so are you doing the repair install?

The memory is a simple fix, and i'm sad I didn't see this thread sooner before you ended up here.

Well This windows issue yes can be from a corrupt or failing hard drive, but it had nothing to do with your RAM issue.

Like i said the changes you made shouldn't have crashed up windows like that, but it did.

And yes a bent CPU pin can do that, its a common problem with these processors. You will probably see a couple.

well everything seemed to went over pretty well-cleaning up the C drive now of the old install then immediately making a restore point- not to sure why one wasn't already made i thought i had it made to where after updates and installations were done to make a restore point but apparently that wasn't true

I just realized i don't have any thermal paste on hand atm- will have to stop by storage tomorrow to pick some up then i can reseat the cpu/fix the bent pins

This is GREAT!!! Even though I'm back where i started.....

Much appreciated for bearing with me and my temper this far- I now have over 8 hours of lost time for work i have to catch up on....

Ok good.

Now like I said, bent pins. Give it a look.

The easiest way to fix them is to use a mechanical pencil with the lead removed, you slide it over the end and straighten it out. GENTLE GENTLE GENTLE

ok will have a look when i have time to get to storage- unfortunately- idk if i will be able today as something came up-

is it possible to keep this thread alive until i can tomorrow?

also, what are the chances this is actually the problem? no offense; just a bit bit hesitant after yesterday xD

and if so, what would cause a bent pin?

Thread will stay alive till its done.

I'm 99.9999999999% sure this is your problem. How it happens? When you're installing the pins on the outside get bumped a bit, or maybe in removing it from packaging. Happens VERY often here.

Do you have a magnifying glass? That would be the best way to see it, even the slighetest bend can cause an issue. And just to be sure, none are broken off correct?
