Ok, I don't know why, but I just installed a new Yamaha 16x cd-rw, and it won't burn. Actually, DirectCD (Adaptec) says there's no burner on my computer. I have tried running the cd-rom as master and slave and vise-versa with the cd-rw. Nothing changes--I am getting the same results with both Win2K and Win98. What gives? Is this a software glitch? The CD-rom part of the Yamaha burner does work, however.

You might have to update your Adaptec software to the latest version via a patch. Or perhaps try Nero and see if that will work.

I just bought one recently and had the same problem. Your Yamaha 16x burner is fine... it's the software that has a problem. Adaptec version 4.02x has some incompatibility issues with Internet Explorer 5.5. You have to download a patch for a fix and a couple of patches to upgrade to version 4.03. I messed around with the patches and finally got it to work. But I forgot exactly what I did. I think I ran 3 patches. Go to adaptec web page.
