Installing GeForce 9600 GT card monitor goes into Power Saver Mode

I have an ASUS M4a79T motherboard, an AMD Phenom II *4 995, 8.0 gb ram, running Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit SP. I'm trying to install an Nvidia 9600gt ( 2 dvi output ports ), which starts to boot with video display and then goes to analog power saver mode, and there is no way to access the running computer. Does anyone have any tips ?

There's nothing in the bios on the video (no onboard video). Seems to be connected with the video on the 9600. Actually this card was in the computer, but wasn't able to boot in safe mode because of the same problem, it would shift to power saver mode. Replaced it with an Nvidia GeForce 5200 from a few years ago, and for the most part seems ok and booted normally into Windows. However, I wanted to install the original GeForce 9600. Now with no video drives installed in windows via the device manager, trying to boot with the GeForce 9600 both ports drop to power save mode. Used an adapter to port one of the DVI outputs to an analog VGA monitor and it drops into analog power saver mode.

Am thinking might be something in the CMOS that is hindering it, resetting will go back to factory defaults for the mobo - will have to reset date/time, OC if any etc, but often takes care of this type problem

Some other information that might be important is that I can boot to any live disk version of Linux. I've booted into Linux Mint, Debian Linux, and Ubuntu without the issue of my video card dropping into power saver mode. But I can't boot windows Vista installation DVD without having the same video problems. My instinct at this time is that Vista low level video drivers are causing the problems for the PCIe Nvidia 9600. I'm goin to upgrade to Windows 7 later this week and see if that helps. Thanks for the suggestion Tradesman1, and if after upgrading to Win 7, if I have the same problems I'll certainly try resetting bios back to factory default.

After thinking about your suggestion more, I do think it could solve the problem. I'm going to try to find an update to the bios, and see if a problem with the PCIe slot has been fixed. I'll let you know the results. Thanks again.
