Back on topic. (Formatting is working right now so I'm just spacing everything).

Microsoft not supportting them is all due to "security" is crap and everyone knows it.

What's likely happening here is in my opinion as follows. It's neither fact nor accusatory, disclaiming that should MS read this one random comment and yell slander.

Microsoft has made it clear that Windows is more or less an OS as service now, pretty much offering it for free.

So how do you recoup your money?
Artificially limit the hardware that can run it while ending support for your older OS. This eliminates a large number of computers for updates.

You put news out that support is ending. Outlets report on it, more so as the date nears. Technology ignorant people will panic and turn their perfectly good hardware (for their use) into e-waste and rush out to buy new hardware, the trap.

Meanwhile MS makes a deal with manufactures to charge more for Windows on new hardware but assuring greater sales, possibly with a reduced cost if a threshold isn't met. A win-win for both. Microsoft maintains dominance outside of Apple and more hardware is sold by the big names.

Did I not have enough caffeine yet (or maybe to much)? Possibly.

But Microsoft does not have the users security or best interests in mind as they claim, they never have and now all the sudden they do outside of security patches which are usually for their own security holes?
Microsoft is a business and businesses have their own interests in mind, profits. The security is in my opinion a front for something else. Otherwise Windows wouldn't have have telemetry let alone that new the feature *just insert the entire -Every Breath You Take- lyrics here.
The very definition of anti-security and definitely not privacy.

If that's all bigfoot and Hersheykiss hat talk so be it but that's my theory. And my God that turned out long. I've already used up my internet privileges for the day.

  • Tons of software doesn't exist for Linux and has no alternatives.
This is my main bugbear with Linux. Instead of the plethora of desktop environments, how about investing the manpower in developing competent alternatives to the commercial applications available on WinMac? Outside of browsers, Libre office, Gimp, and mail clients, it is amateur hour. And then if you ask for any help you are sent rooting into the terminal.

Then there is the hokey display scaling. God forbid you have to use Linux using anything other than a 24" monitor.

EDIT : Windows 10 also dropped support for certain CPUs as the versions progressed, so Microsoft has form for this.

That's if you even get help. Bunch of pretentious tools. More snarky gEt g00d people than helpful ones. Some questions are genuinely stupid because you can Google and get the answer but others are also just plain vague as you said, "go into terminal and do 'xyz'". Oh gee thanks, how about how do I do 'xyz' in terminal, each base is different.

A unified approach is definitely needed if it's ever to become a true 3rd competitor in the space.

I seems I am stuck with my AMD TR 2990WX as there's no support for it.
Is the list final or MS will gradually be adding other processors?

I feel so bad for my UFO built in 2017. It is still going strong.
