Intel Celeron G530 with DDR3 1600Mhz Ram?

Hi, i am building a new computer this spring, as my laptop has finally given up and died. I hope to get an i5 2500k but at the moment when funds are extremely tight, and i need a computer fast, i am going to buy the g530 for £30, until i can afford the i5. The ram i was going to get is Corsair Vengeance 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz Memory Module CL9 1.5V.

What i want to know, is will my motherboard(Asus P8Z68-V LX) automatically downclock the ram so it will work with the g530? or do i have to get 1066 ram for it to work?

As per sandybridge architecture, you can go DDR3 1333mhz (if cheaper) since you won't gain any performance advantage in real world usage with faster ram, or lower latency.

If you want to keep the ram, you can, the mobo will support it flawless.

i understand that the mobo will support it its just will the processor support it?

and sorry i dont understand, your saying that 1333mhz will be just as fast as 1600mhz?

can't say about sandy.
But i have phenom2 1090t which have upto 1333mhz memory support+ 1x4gb corsair vangence 1600 cl9 1.5v ram, and in first slot it runs at 1600 by default without any overclock, and in dimm2 it runs at 1333mhz by default.

(Corsair vangence 1600cl9 ram is1333cl9 ram which is capable of runing at 1600cl9 using xmp (according to cpuid in my pc))

Even though the Pentiums are Sandy Bridge based, their memory controllers can only go up to DDR3-1066.

You can use the 1600MHz RAM but the CPU will only go up to 1066MHz. You will have a bit better memory bandwidth but most desktop and real world apps wont benefit from it.

False. The G8xx chips can use the 1333MHz with their memory controller. The G6xx chips and below have the 1066MHz controllers.

yes, it will run at 1066 due to the memory controller on the cpu.

and also if you can get the P8Z68-V instead, it is SOOOOO much better.
not only does it give you another pci-e x16 slot instead of an outdated pci it has 16 phase power design instead of 4+2!

Also take into account the IGP will be using the main memory, so any performance gain from running 1600 @ 1333 with better timings is better than nothing. I also agree with getting the Asus P8Z68-V orver the LX.

SB can and does scale with higher clocked memory and 1600 is gradually becoming the standard but you may have to configure the settings to make use of it. SB doesn't care much about timings but just clocks.

Perhaps my response is a tad late, but... Actually, I'm currently running this system:
Asus P8Z68-V PRO gen3
Celeron G530 @2.4 Ghz
Corsair Vengeance LP 4x4GB DDR3 @1600 CL9-9-9-24 1T (XMP enabled)

I've stress tested the CPU it with Prime95, works like a charm.
Sandra 2012 reports just over 20 GB/s memory bandwidth.

So yeah. I'd go for the 1600 mhz memory

On older platforms faster ram doesn't make much of a difference but on 1155 that is different. Performance does improve with faster ram but 4GB kits are not worth it given the cost for a few pounds more you might as well get a 8GB kit. With a 8gb kit you will not have to worry about needing to upgrade so quickly and now days it is very easy to run low on 4gb.
