Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Question

Well i was thinking of getting the Intel Core 2 Duo processors but then i found out how expensive the Intel Core 2 E6700... Then i moved to the E6600, still it was expensive -_-. So I moved on to E6400 and it was the perfect price. Though i just wonder since im NOT GOING TO OVERCLOCK my system, should i get this processor since its a lvl 2 Cache and at 2.14ghz. Is there any better processor around this price range that still beats this?

The Cache will have 0%-10% impact, 10% in encoding...
If I remeber correctly it was around 3%-5% average difference.

Looking at the Tom's review, the 4800+ is right on the heels of E6600 and is $240 at Newegg.

Cool thanks for the link, only thing is he did'nt mentionned he was gaming, so other benchies dont have the 4800 "right on the heels", the 6400 is 220$ on newegg and is on par/beats the 5000+ in any benchies...

The 4800+ right on the heels of the E6600? Did you look at the chart you linked? It shows the E6600 beating the flagship AMD CPU (FX-62) and the 5000+. How can this make the 4800+ "right on the heels" of the E6600?

It shows the E6400 running neck to neck with the FX CPU, with a Newegg price of $220.

The E6400 would be the OPs best choice for what he asked. So, to the OP, jaguarskx is correct. There is no other CPU at that price range that is comparable to the E6400 in performance.

Ignore BM, since he has a misguided view and is extremely biased towards AMD...

Intel's C2D's, regardless of models, also overclock very well, meaning that the E6300 costing around $175 will overclock well in excess of 3GHz with stock cooling outperforming even a stock E6800.

and AMD CPU's do not overclock well at all compared to Intel just as reported in the Link that BM posted... and AMD CPU's run hotter and use more power consumption.

LoL - couldn't have said it better myself!
AMD x2 4600+ @ 2.4GHz is a good CPU (inexpensive) and you can build a nice affordable AM2 rig...
But for a little more, Core2 is great.
Note: Core2 runs well with memory @ 266MHz (533DDR) so you can get really good performance (timings) with PC2-5400 and PC2-6400 is excellent.

If "on the heels of" means being beaten by only 15.4% - 24.5% depending on which benchmark you compare, then you are correct from a certain point of view.

The E6400 falls right in the bargin range IMO. Mine I picked up for a little over $200 and its now living its life at 3.2ghz with no real effort to get it there.

3.2ghz C2D Beats anything AMD has to offer even when overclocked. Even a E6300 with a little overclocking say 2.3ghz(333 x 7) with no extra voltage would trounce many a more expensive CPU ;-)

The simple answer you your question is no. I use this site often because it shows a very large swath of CPUs to compare, you can check the 6400 performance against all the others fairly easily and they use more realworld type benchmarks:
