Intel Cuts Prices of Core 2 Duo, Pentium CPUs

I find it interesting that the Core 2 Duo 8x00 series CPUs are NOT listed there.

Though it looks like drops of $20 to $33 on their higher end chips in that chart. So those are half way decent discounts.

Although I can't wait for i3 & i5 chips to get released, in hopes that this might also bring about price drops on the i7 line.

[citation][nom]aznguy0028[/nom]hmm, just curious, but why would anyone get a C2Q 9300 over a C2Q 9400, when they are the same price on the chart? same with the c2q 8400/8300?[/citation]

same here .

Depends where you are benching in and oc or not.

Too bad this is more of stuff i would buy for someone else then myself, LGA775 upgrade path is a bit limited with it being more or less dead now ;)

Yeah, C2D E7500 IS on the list so conspicuous by absence is E8xxx

My guess is they're still selling like hotcakes at the current prices in some markets and/or Intel thinks there will still be plentiful demand for these 'budget' processors after i5 is introduced, (i5 being not-so-cheap as many may have imagined in that case).

[citation][nom]rooseveltdon[/nom]Yeah but...would they still be able to play crysis?[/citation]

That joke doesn't work with this article. Price cuts and crysis? *confused

Does it bother anyone else that there is a Pentium named E6300 now? Would it really have been that hard to avoid other Conroe-based processor numbers?

The new Athlon II 240-250 are a huge bang for the buck. They're a bit more powerfull than the E5400 equal with the new "E6300" and cheaper, also consume less.

It's more of a SOS move from intel. Don't forget about the massive coverage on the 550-720BE and their mutant ability.

They are actually the same processor.

There was an earlier article here on Tom's that explained the whole clock speed issue with manufactured blocks of processors and which ones get which speeds.

In the case of each of these two sets, I suspect the manufacturer's engineering assessment of the two lines of cpu's was that they were functionally identical, stable for overclocking to the same final speed, and at this point enough pc-savvy people were aware of it that made no sense to try to make a couple extra bucks on the number difference as most folks were buying the cheaper of the two and running up the speeds.

They'd drop one number line completely but big box folks like HP, Dell, and Lenovo still make a couple extra bucks selling the "faster" cpu's to less cpu-aware folks who just buy whatever they are convinced "looks cool" at Best Buy.

I want a Core 2 Quad with native virtualization for under $100.00. That is the benchmark. I got one (on sale, without virtualization at Microcenter) but that isn't the standard...

"Nobodies going to buy these old s775 processors when you can get a faster X4 940 for $175!!"

Well...except for all the folks still using 775 motherboards and who can't afford to cough up a wad for a new i7 / i5 board plus cpu or for the x940 AND a motherboard.

It's just a matter of wallet math.

Say...I got an old p4, Pentium D, or early Core 2 system and no more than $200 to spend. I can still get a newer cpu, a little bit better video card, and maybe even more memory - enough to run Windows 7. Office 2007, and surf the net.
