Hi, I am thinking about getting a dell 3000 series. But they only have
integrated Intel Extreme Graphics 2. Will it be a sufficent video card?

If you are a computer gamer you will avoid those kind of Dell's like the
plague. They sometimes don't even have agp or pci-e slots to have a chance
at upgrading. Any gamer foolish enough to stick himself with one of those
ends up giving it to grandma and buying a real computer.

Any idea which 'model' of Intel Extreme,

http://www.intel.com/design/graphics2/

Lists 3 none of which do DX9, so it depends what you want to
play on it & whether you want DX9 effects.

Personally I wouldn't touch intergrated graphics, especially if
there is no upgrade option (i.e. no card slot) post purchase.

It will run Solitaire and at a push Pinball. Not much else though.

Well, depends on what you want to do.

For Warcraft, Diablo2, surfing & microsoft office - yeah, it'll be
plenty.

For recent action games like Doom3 - no, you'll need to buy a better
gfx card.

Not all Integrated Graphics Dells have no upgrade slot.

Someone I know just ordered a Dell 4700 with onboard Intel 900, and it
has a PCI-E x16 slot. Of course it was impossible to figure out from the
web page; he had to ask over the phone, and that person had to call back.

Intel Extreme & 900 video have enough 3D support to play last generation
FPS games, like the original Half Life, competantly. They are not, of
course, the gamer's choice, nor is the ATi X300 "upgrade" offered on the
Dell web site. Dell also offers a gamer's PC, or at least their idea of
one.

Yeah, that why I said "sometimes".

My old Voodoo3 played Half-Life competantly. So that's not saying much for
the Intel Extreme.
