Hi friends, My notebook's model is sony vaio vgn-fw260 and mainboard's chipset is GM45. In intel datasheet it emphasizes GM45 supports both DDR2 and DDR3. So i purchased DDR3 type RAM to upgrade. But i realized pin configuration of DDR2 and DDR3 not same, so couldnt utilize DDR3. Is there any chance to use DDR3 like maybe there is another ports that i wouldn't see? If not why intel says it supports DDR3? I feel like being deceived.

Solution
You need ddr2 ram.
CPU-Z will give you the specs of the ram you now have installed.
Match that for you upgrade as to type.speed/voltage and timings.
Better yet, to go a ram web site and access their ram upgrade app.
Enter the make/model of your laptop and you will get a list of supported upgrades.

I might add that if your os is a 32 bit os, it can only support 4gb of ram.
