Yes I'm using the stock fans on my Kraken.
I thought of delidding my CPU, But I'm too scared about it and I'm a broke college student right now lol :D , can't afford another one.

Do you think going push-pull on Kraken would significantly decrease the temperatures on Haswell? Thanks

That was more a joke actually.

I would expect a drop of around 3°C. Maybe 2 more, maybe 2 less.
But I doubt it´s worth the extra money and especially the extra noise.

Same. Anyway, are the 4 screws in your Kraken easy to tighten? Cuz my Kraken's Screws were a bit loose, like I try to tighten it and then it gets loose again, you know what I'm saying? And also when I try to remove the screws, it's a bit hard to remove, I need to exert more force to remove it. Have you had any of these problems?

It's the distance to TJ Max. The temperature in Real Temp is at the top which says 40.

more relavent pic of huge discrepency and temp reading and me wondering if 6o degrees even fof just one care is bad under load cuse meualtors are cpu intensive and the settings are high

Looks like Real Temp is not actually real. Just use AI Suite III as your basis for temperature. JJ from ASUS said that AI Suite III gives more accurate temperature reading than other temp readers.

Unfortunately, it doesn´t.
RealTemp and similar tools use the temperature sensor built into the CPU itself while AISuite uses a temp sensor that is only "near" the CPU.
You can google for it to find more detailed information about the locations if you are interested.

If you are still uncertain, use another tool like hwinfo or something to confirm the temperatures from RealTemp.

I own a Asus Sabertooth and those differences temperatures got me confused as well. Mostly because I was really wanting to believe that the temperatures in AISuite would be real. :-/

+1 for HWINFO, I use that one to check my temp. I used AI SUITE III before but I felt it's a bit bloated so I uninstalled it.

Hi Intel God and everyone else,

Many thanks for your guide. I'm new to CPU overclocking and this is a godsend.

I've run into a problem trying to follow your guide, which is that I can't find the setting to adjust "CPU cache multiplier/ring bus multiplier" which you advise to set to 35. I've followed all the other instructions, including setting the CPU core ratio to 44, changing voltages etc.

My current OC is 4.3GHz @ 1.3v, which I got by following a guide posted by Asus on Youtube entitled "How-to manually overclock any ASUS Z87 motherboard ".
But it would seem that I should be able to expect at least 4.4GHz, and perhaps at a lower voltage. Also the vid suggest using an adaptive voltage, but I've read that this often sets the voltage higher than necessary.

If I just follow the vid and try to go higher than 4.3, I crash as windows loads. I haven't gone over 1.3v CPU core voltage, as I am ignorant of the dangers of pushing the voltage higher.

TL;DR - Do you know of the Asus name for "CPU cache multiplier/ring bus multiplier", as it's holding me back from 4.4< glory?

Thanks again
Chuz

Edit: The UEFI does have "min cache ratio" and "max cache ratio" settings. I presumed it wasn't these as your suggested value of 35 is way lower than the Asus recommendation of setting it to the same as the CPU core ratio...

Yup that's it. Put 35 on both min and max cache ratio. Well for optimal performance, make the cache ratio 300mhz closer to the cpu core ratio. For example if you put 44, put 41 on min and max cache ratio. Anyway, what's your CPU batch number? It's located in the box of the CPU, it's like "L3XXXXXX" the X pertains to a certain letters/numbers. It will determine if you have a bad or good overclocking chip.

Can you still return it? My first chip is a L311 batch too. No matter how hard I tweak stuff from vcore to other voltages, I can't get it stable to 4.2 and above, and lots of people are having problems overclocking L311 batch too. Then I went to the store I bought it to and told them that I'm so disappointed with the performance of my CPU and that it's a bad overclocker and I asked for a replacement. A few days later after they confirmed that it's a bad overclocker, I got my replacement and it's a L310B506 chip, I can hit 4.6Ghz with 1.15v no problem! Though I need a better cooler if I want to use that clock. So I stayed at 4.4Ghz with 1.11v and it's stable ran 5 hours of AIDA64 and no BSOD's! The highest temp is 78 and the lowest is 29.

Bum, I was worried that was coming. I might be able to return it, I was getting about four 124 hardware BSODs a day for about 2 weeks until I started upping the voltage. It's not stable at the UEFI's "optimal defaults", and attempts to overclock it using Asus' "4 way optimization" all lead to BSODs, or on a few occasions the PC even refusing to POST.

I bought the CPU from Amazon.co.uk on 14 July, so hopefully I haven't missed my window of opportunity to get an exchange.

Apparently "computing" can be returned up to 30 days in "best possible condition". It'll probably mean 4-5days without my machine, but I suppose in the long run it's worth it...

How do I not get another duff chip?

Same thing happened to me too! BSOD 124 always on my first chip. You still have 6 days to return it and get a replacement! To make sure that you wont get a duff chip again, you can request for a chip that is not L311. L310's and L312's are one of the best one's from what I heard and saw in the internet. You can take a look here, http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=185344

actually 3 of the top 5 on that list are L311's, but they're all 4770k. Anyway, I put in for a return, but Amazon will only refund, not return or exchange...

Still, based on your case and my case and some of my buds who got same batch as ours, L311's are bad overclockers.
