As I am thinking to upgrade and i am thinking to build a PC myself. So i was a bit confused about which processor i should use for gaming purposes.i am wondering about which is good for gaming either 6th gen i7 or i7 extreme version.
thanks in advance.

Solution
the gtx 1070 is almost identical to the gtx 980ti. get a gtx 1070, cause its newer so you'll have more future driver support and it has 2 more extra vram. as far the processor goes, get a i7 6700k. it'll eat anything you throw at it. getting an extreme edition may help you out in the long run, who knows games may utilize 10 cores in 5-6 years later but 6700k is your best bet for now.

For highest fps in DX11 in most games- overclocked i5
For highest fps and minimum fps in almost all games- overclocked latest i7 4-core
For highest fps in DX12- overclocked i7 4 or 6 or 8 core, depending on the title, but i7 4-core still taking most wins because of best OC ability and one year advantage in CPU architecture. 6-8 cores do better mostly in strategy titles and Battlefield games.

i have a budget of 300$ to 400$ for processor.
i will buy processor first then other assesories compatible with it.
i was comparing whole series of i7 6th gen to i7 extreme version because 6th gen is latest.

Then what is your question- as all i7s are great for gaming, and the only difference between them- some are better because they offer higher fps.

What gpu do you have in mind? If you are aiming for a gtx 1070 or 1080 then an i7 6700(k) would be ideal since an i5 will bottleneck it in certain games (mostly fps games like battlefield, CoD etc..)

If you are getting a gtx 1060 or rx 480 then get the i5 6600(k) which is a perfect match with that gpu.

A 6600k will not bottleneck any of those cards
It just depends if the game can handle more than 4Threads. There are not many games that can so far. BF1 for example and generally Frostbite engine games while not all profit the same off it (FIFA 17 for example doesn't much care about an i7)

Overall the i7 extreme is not worth it for gaming, go.with an i7-6700k as it has the better value ratio and outperforms the extreme in many games sue to higher clock speeds.

The best value now is the SFF dell or HP-Compaq. Most are sandybridge i5-2400 3.1ghz or i5-2500's. It's mostly that they include windows 7 64 or 10. These are $160cnd ($120us) Locally. Your best bet is to look for a local store or someone who is selling them locally as the shipping online for a bulky item like that is costly. It's used so you also want to see it working first. It's smart to ask to see it with the case cover off so you can confirm it has a standard atx plug on the board, and a pcie-16 slot.

-There is also a HP-Compaq micro-atx tower. It fits a standard atx power supply and also i know that a HD-4870 fits so most cards like a GTX1070 will fit as long as you don't get the OC triple fan version that is longer. They are usually $80-$120 more than the dell sff.

-You must transplant the system into a bigger case with a new power supply. A new 2nd hdd is good too as most only have a 160gig in them.
Cloning the 160gb to a new SSD would also be good.

If your going with the GTX1080 or RX480 crossfire, of course the older sandybridge wont work well, and now it's a much more expensive skylake K cpu and so on. The i7-6700K with a stock 4.0ghz clock is likely the best value.

-DO YOUR RESEARCH, THERE IS A ULTRA SFF THAT USES A LAPTOP BOARD AND POWER BRICK, OF COURSE THOSE WONT WORK. BE CAREFUL OF WHICH COMPUTER YOU PICK OUT.

The ipc didn't improve much until Skylake. So a i5-2400@3.1ghz=i5-4440@3.0ghz. Or something like that.

Maybe at most a 2.7ghz Skylake i5=i5-2400@3.1ghz. It's still not a big jump in ipc. Mostly the newer one can overclock higher due to the smaller process. The i5-2500K would cook itself at 4.5ghz where the new skylake is fine.

I think ultimately that was the question.
