Intel HM55 chipset SSD help?

Just discovered my laptop has an Intel HM55 chipset

What does this mean when im shopping for an SSD? Will I be limited?

Crucial have recommended this

I dont really want to spend over £180 and if I can get a 256GB SSD for that I would be happy,

That chipset supports SATA 3Gb/s ports, so you will not get maximum advertised Read/Write speeds from your Crucial M4, but your performance will be much, much better than a hard drive.

So both of them hard drives are compatible?

I have read that performance has been capped across all SSD's on this intel chipset. should I be worried about that when spending £180? Or have these problems been ironed out?

Yes, they are both compatible. You have to check with Crucial though because I don't think they honor warranties from drives sold on eBay. So if the drive dies on you 6 months from now you'll be out of luck.

There's no problem with the chipset, it's just that your SATA ports are 3Gb/s. So any 6Gb/s SSD (like your M4) that you connect to the ports will operate at 3Gb/s speeds.

Thanks for the reply are most/ all new SSD's backwards compatible to 3gb/s?

Ive been on here all day getting advice and it seems im no further forward. I cant seem to find a clear winner on a brand make or model!
guess I just gotta buy one and see
