Intel I5 4570S for gaming?

Hey guys,

Just got got a great deal on the I5 4570s (Under £100) and was wondering how it would perform while gaming compared to the other I5s.

I noticed it has a Turbo boost speed of 3.6ghz, will I be able to lock the speed at 3.6ghz or will I have to wait for it to boost itself from 2.9-3.6ghz?

Also could someone recommend a cheap/budget motherboard for this chip?

I'm going to be pairing it with a GTX 760 in a Mini ITX/ Micro ATX build, I was originally going to for for the I3 4130 and then I saw this for only £15 more.

This will in no way hold you back. It is fast enough for all gaming. For the small price difference I'd get the quad core i5. You won't regret it. All Haswell i5s will perform the same in gaming.

the 's'' version of the 4570 is the low consumption chip that is meant for small form factor build and mini ITX, but it's still almost as strong as the standard 4570, it's in any case much better than the core i3-4130, i would defenetly suggest you go with that for gaming, the i3 is a no brainer nowadays...

It all comes down to wich case you choose to go with, either micro ATX or mini ITX...mini ITX cost more..to go with a GPU as powerful as a GTX 760 i would personaly stick to micro ATX. Mini ITX on this can be done but it's quite a challenge...for gaming.

I like the look of the Asus Micro ATX one, however on the specifications site it shows that it only has a normal PCIE x 16 and doesn't mention if it's 1.0, 2.0 or 3.0.

Would a normal PCIE x 16 provide enough bandwith for the GTX 760.

woahh didn't noticed the pcie 16x slot was a 1st gen...to make sure the 760 operate optimal with no limits on bandwidth a gen 2.0 pciexpress is required, but i believe the 1.0 pcie16x would not really limit it a lot in terms of performance i believe it would be less than 5% performance hit but to make sure you should shop for a mobo with a least a gen 2.0 pcie16x...the 2.0 will not limit any high-end gpu even a 780ti run 100% on them.

for the case it's fine, this one is nice...

for the powersupply, the corsair CX series is considered as the ''lowest acceptable'' in terms of powersupplies i would look for seasonic, EVGA or XFX in the budget powersupplies they are better units, for corsair you should look for something in the TX series but it's more expensive...an equivalent unit but better quality (semi-modular) at good price comparable to what you where looking at would be one of those :

you see i listed a 450w unit because i think that with the CPU and graphics card you are going with 450w is plenty enough, but for future proofing i understand you migh want a 550w unit...
You could still decide to go with the CS series i get that it's cheaper and some users have had some for a long time now and they have had no issues, others have reported problems with those PSU...

I have a CX500 in my Overclocked FX 6300 and 7850 build and it has worked perfectly for a year (Heavy overclocks on both the GPU and CPU). However I will probably go with the Seasonic Modular 520w as I found it for only £8 more than the CX500m, I'm going to be using a Twin Frozer GTX 760 in this build and will be overclocking it quite far.

What is your mobo and how high did you overclock the fx-6300?

btw, Seasonic makes the best PSUs. I had the 520W, non modular, and it was solid.

My FX 6300 is clocked at 4.6ghz with a Hyper 212 Evo, my motherboard is the Asus M5A97 Evo R.2 and my 7850 is running at 1150, 1375 (So around a 35% overclock on the core and 15% on the memory). I did all the relevant stress tests (Prime95, Furmark, Unigine Heaven etc) and it has been running perfectly for a year on the CX500.

many users have had CS series PSU and have had no problem whats-o-ever, some other users have repported issues and magor problems from those unit tho..
