Intel or AMD?

Can you list any low end mobos that dont?
Whats funny here is, youre comparing Intel, with their highend strategy to AMDs more flexible strategy, and of course, a higher costing solution to a lessor one. Cant see why you dont get that.
While it may be true that in those times you couldnt predict what was going to be supported, if you seriously wanted your mobo to last the duration, you may have at least tried to go higher tier, where you dont see these discrepancies

Frequency (GHZ) does not translate into performance, it is one of many factors.

Generally, on the low end (sub-300) AMD's and Intel's stuff has the same price\performance ratio.

errrr i can point to i7 matx boards that are "cheap"

if you mean dirt cheap I can also point to some nice crappy foxxconn (non matx but hey) board i've toyed (and thankfully only that) with.

and also, i can point to shitty intel i7 boards (intel branded, they rolled their own that just plain sucked balls) that they made and isn't cheap.

i can point back to the NF2/NF3 days for "high end" amd boards that sucked balls.

I can point....

there are lemons all around, if you dont know what you buy, and buy blindly, there are going to be *** everywhere

Yeah, but keep in mind that the lowest choice (on NewEgg) is $170. That's just too much. Why can't you get a decent i7 mobo for around $120?

I'm a huge AMD critic, but I gotta give the win to AMD on this one. Of course, AMD doesn't have any high-end desktop processors, so it's not an apple to apple comparison, but the motherboard issue does make the i7 920 not very appealing to me.

My guess would be the tri-channel memory access - IIRC it requires an 8-layer mobo to implement, which is always going to be more expensive than a 6-layer.

I'm sure the prices will still be coming down - IIRC the cheapest X58 mobo was over $300 last November or so. So that's nearly a 50% decrease. I doubt they'll ever get down to the $80 range however, or if they do, I'd look at the reviews very closely before buying one :).

Well its like the other X3/X4 series chipset mobos which normally never go sub $150. Its higher end. Just like most high end AMD mobos don't go sub $150, or at least of the same quality.

X58 is a nice chipset and I wanna see what P55 will do. Only wish it was going for Core i7 1366 and 1156 to see if it would be a better alternative to X58.

My MSI X58 Pro-E was $249. Absolute lowest price for X58 in Australia 2 months ago, and lower than the cheapest price now. I considered that a pretty good deal considering most were over $300 and closer to $400 8 months ago.
