Intel pentium e2220 to e8400 C2D??

This is my 1st custom build pc. Also im doing it for my Graduation Project
I found out that my cpu is a bottleneck to my graphics card or is it? idk... not really good with cpu stuff(care to explain all the details about this? if you want TY!!)
I want to upgrade to a new cpu which im gonna buy next week.
I wanna know if i can get more fps out of it.
Btw how does fsb works? And also i dont want to OC my cpu

I can also upgrade to quad core. BUt i really want to get more FPS
But im limit to $140 or less.

MOBO:Msi 750i p7n
Ram😛cu 6400 i think it was 800mhz
Graphics: Ati 4850
Cpu: Pentium e2220 dual @2.40
PSU:600 watts not sure but it has 4 rails with 19 amps
OS:Win 7 ultimate

For the "Why so high" question, Windows 7 has a WEI score that tops at 7.9.

$149 + free shipping. A E8400 wouldn't be that bad but a quad core would be better for the long term.

THE FSB (Front Side Bus) works by taking the BCLK (Base Clock) and multiplying it by the multiplier of the CPU to get the CPU clock speed. The Q8300 has a FSB of 1333MHz total. Its BCLK is 333MHz quad fired which = 1333MHz. So the multiplier is 7.5 x 333MHz which equald 2.5GHz. The multiplier can also downclock to 6 which would mean 2GHz for low process power applications via SpeedStep.

The FSB also links the CPU to the memory at the same speed but works a bit differently. It will run a 1333MHz but is really 667MHz in 2 channels which equals 1333MHz. Each channel of memory runs at 2x the BCLK. So 333MHz x2 means each channel of memory is running at 667MHz and then, again, is multiplied by 2 since each channel is running at the same speed giving an effective speed of 1333MHz.

A bit weird but it works out in the end.

1. Don't upgrade the CPU just yet. OC it to 3Ghz or more. Why would you not OC?

2. A 4850 can still run most games at 1680*1050 fine.

3. How much RAM do you have? 2GB? 4GB or more?

4. All in all, there is no point in trying to put in a new CPU for this rig as it is a dead socket.

5. What games & settings and FPS are you getting?

im too scared to OC it and i still dont have a cpu cooler. i
and i have 4gb ram
and yes i already know it's a dead socket
1650x1200 i think

OCing is easy. Just grab a decent cooler (ie Core Contact, Hyper 212+,etc). Go in to BIOS set Multiplier to 11x, then set FSB to 273Mhz. Set RAM:FSB at 1:1. That should give you 3Ghz. You can adjust voltages manually once you stress test at 3Ghz.

3ghz LOL that's fast. You see i never tried to oc before and i never learn how to.
can i oc this cpu to 2.8ghz or less with same temp and voltage?

3Ghz in NOT that much of an OC for that CPU. Many people have been able to get 3.4-3.6Ghz on that CPU with a good board.
