I am one who built my system in the prime of the LGA775 days i got a E7200 but want to get a quad. I like others have been checking prices on the C2Q for some time thinking I could get great performance out of my rig if I switched to a Quad. I would love a Q9550 (12MB Cache) but the (Q9505) is a 40 dollar drop for half the cache. either way 200-300 bucks is cheaper than going AMD or upgrading platforms. It just overpriced still.

No games I play or apps I run perform notably better on my Q9450 (oc to 3.2) than on my i5/650 (stock). In terms of performance needs, I cannot justify a CPU upgrade. The Q9450 is too good a chip to simply toss, but at some point I know I'll want SATA 6gb/s and USB 3.0, which means a new mobo, almost certainly not LGA775. Whether I go AMD or Intel, I doubt it will be before Bulldozer to see what that does to prices.

Let's hope it lives up to its name, bulldozing the prices to dust! 😀

[citation][nom]Trueno07[/nom]That's all I cared about[/citation]
Probably that is they care about: Not dropping the prices of their best-selling processors as long as possible. 🙁

i know alot of 775 people are hanging in until all the upgrade paths are done that started with usb 3.0, now sata 3 and pci-e 3.0 to roll out. sucks for all you guys that already bought in will have to upgrade in 2011 to take advantage of those. but any one who bought into 775 before the i-5/7's rolled out, microcenter has had your best cpu deals for the last 2 years I5-750's were even $149 right before x-mas 😀 C2Q 9550 is and has been $179 for the last year now at microcenter. picked one up in may for myself and another last week for a friend, but i expect microcenter will shave off another $10-20 from that in the next month with these price intel cuts, just to clear out all the old stock during the back to school specials. stock at my local store went from qty 144 to 14 in the last 2 months since i bought mine. seeing is believing right? here you go : http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0299412

Uh, people are still hoping for a C2Q LGA 775? I don't know about other channels, but most of the direct channel from Intel has been dry and DISCONTINUED for ages. You'll have to buy only through a store far down the channel to try to get one they paid way too much for and now have a hard time selling when other quad cores are cheaper and faster.

Where I am, Intel discontinued most of the C2Q after they released the Core I7, the price from suppliers even JUMPED ~$60.

Suppliers and vendors know they hold an easy drop in upgrade if they have stock, and are not going to part with it cheap.

I am just waiting for amd to get a little shot in the arm (hopefully this year) Then I will upgrade. I like intel, but they pissed me off when they introduced three different sockets. I want one socket. That way if I buy something, at least I know I can upgrade it without having to fork out money for a new motherboard. I am still running a 775 c2d. I am also thinking of dropping in a quad. Why, because I dont have the cash for cpu, motherboard, and ram.

The prices on C2Q are not going to come down. C2Q are expensive to make, requiring two dies that could be sold as C2Ds (or more likely Pentiums these days as C2D nears EOL) and Intel has moved on in the high end. They know well that the only people buying C2Qs as retail chips are people who would otherwise need a new mobo for a quad. C2Q isn't really competing with $200 i5s, it's competing with $300 i5+ a P55 mobo. I suspect they're just clearing out inventory there.

You'll note that older AM2+ chips are dirt cheap, since most people who would buy them (AM2+ mobo owners) can just plop in a modern AM3 chip instead. They don't have that 'new mobo' cushion. That and most pre-AM3 AMD stuff is pretty meh compared to K10.5 parts.

[citation][nom]xaira[/nom]old news@ atdhe i think they will eol the 750, because intel doesnt like to sell quads that cheap[/citation]

Not "old news" since this was effective 3 days ago and more than likely has not trickled down to the end user yet. Thinking before typing is a great thing.

[citation][nom]stm1185[/nom]Wheres the $500 2.8 ghz 32nm hexacore dammit![/citation]
Wait for one more year. Maybe more if AMD's bulldozer turns out to be slower than Sandy bridge.

they will not in the near future cut the prices on either the i5 760(the new 750) or i7 930 they are the money makers for intel, if you noticed the price cuts have only been on parts that were very much overpriced from the beginning and no one touched them,

I mean come on the i7 870 that was bad from the start anyone would tell you buy the i7 860 if you want an i7 on 1156

[citation][nom]ta152h[/nom]You're wrong. The Pentium (Penryn) line all has 2 MB L2 cache. The only two on that list that even matter are the E6600 and i5 760. The new 970 is confusing as Hell. It's priced too close to the EE model (probably should sell for $750), and the number (970) makes no sense at all. Intel is getting more and more cryptic with their model numbers, and less and less sensible.[/citation]

Oh, I can follow Intel naming conventions just fine. Nvidia mobile parts on the other hand...8700M GT DDR3, 8700M DDR5, 9600M GT, 9600M GS, 9600M 9800M GTX, GTS,130M, 260M, GTS 350M, I'm not sure if I'm making stuff up at this point, or if it's really this bad. I have a head ache just thinking about it. What the hell is a 130M again? *sobs*

Yeah this is off topic. But what nerve PC manufacturers have to still sell Core 2 systems while i3/i5 are no more expensive OEM and are much better.

For example, my company just bout Core 2 Quad machines and they got them for $600 a piece. No bargain there! Idiots.

Its both the consumer and manufacturer's problem. And Intel tried to squeeze a little more out of them by updating their stickers....admit it Intel.

Well, for what it's worth, I don't know anything about NVIDIA except I will not buy anything with one of their parts in it. That's worked well enough for me. But, anyway, I'll take your word for it.

But, if you think Intel makes sense, I need some of what you're taking.

So, you think the i7 970 should be less powerful than the i7 975, where, in all other cases, the higher number denotes something more powerful? How about the lower power processors? Does it make sense to you that the 870s runs at lower clock speeds than the real 870? How does that make a type of 870, if it's not at the same clock speed? Yes, I know Marcus as it at the same clock speed, but, probably because he couldn't imagine it would be different. But, he's wrong. So is Intel for creating all this confusion.

Intel is following the same pattern they ALWAYS have for pricing.....the top non extreme part is usually about twice what it should be until the new steppings when they introduce a new part 1 bin faster at that inflated price and drop the "old" part down to where it always should have been

Remember when the Q6700 was $550? and the Q9550 was $580? Then they pulled the same thing there too....and oh ya, core 2 quads (while great) are a dead-end people....if you REALLY need one and not an i7/i5, order a Q9550 from microcenter

That is really the best chance you are going to get on a "deal" (and $179 for a Q9550 IS A DEAL). They also sell the 930 for $199.99 which is a LOSS for them (they hope you will buy other stuff too) and an AMAZING price or you.

I too agree, the hexacore mainstream part should have been cheaper, that is just gouging 🙁

[citation][nom]triculious[/nom]if you're still holding on your 775 mobo and waiting for a greatly priced c2q... give it up already, your update path lies on either 1366 or 1156... or go amd altogetherI still can't complain on my c2q q6600 anyways... but I'm really considering to go amd on my next computer[/citation]

Well, it's not bad to wish for a last ditch upgrade before buying an AMD setup. XD
