LGA775 is what I would call a business socket.
Resellers who sell volume can deal directly with Intel for cpu and motherboards and stay that way because if a motherboard goes out Intel sends a new one for the next day...
With AMD you buy from a supplier and replacements take a week or a month... also AMD motherboards are from Asus, MSI, Gigabyte and so on... While intel has their own.
So LGA775 is alive in businesses and those machines will run for many years to come.
