Intel(R) HD 3000 doesn't push high resolution on Dell U2713HM

I just bought a Dell U2713HM for its native resolution of 2500 x 1400. But when I plug it into my ThinkPad E520 with Intel(R) HD 3000 graphics chip, I'm only offered 1900 x 1100 resolution (for which I probably could have gotten a much cheaper monitor). Do I have any options?

So your plugging in the monitor to your laptop? well what are the connectors are you using? install drivers, go to your graphic card control panel.

If you are using a VGA cable, then the max resolution is 1920x1200. If you are connecting via HDMI, DisplayPort or a Dual Linked DVI port (very unlikely on a laptop), then you should get the full resolution.

I don't think that HD 3000 supports 2560x1440 (assuming that you meant 2560x1400, not 2500x1400, because I've never heard of a 2500x1400 resolution and Google tells me that your monitor is 2560x1440). I could be wrong, but I don't think that it is supported by Intel HD 3000.

Thanks for the replies. I was connecting with HDMI (although Dell didn't mention the VGA limitation when I asked). Sounds like my Thinkpad just won't do the trick. I guess I'll have to get a Dell laptop to take full advantage of the monitor.

Also, VGA is not limited to 1920x1200. I've used VGA monitors at 2048x1536. That is the limit of a single VGA/D-sub connector at reasonable Hz IIRC. 1920x1200 is the limit of single link DVI-D and some versions of HDMI.
