Yes Quad Core in 2007.. The Conroe isn't coming out for another 6 months but they have a "beta version" of it now. Which means this could be Quad.. Again I looked for the word Duel or Quad and didn't see it.

Its ok I spell many things wrong.... Q3 IS 6 months from now...........Just so you know

Not to attack a newb or anything, but Q3 actually starts July1st, which is 3 months from now. Q4 starts a 7 months from now on Oct 1st.

Technically, 6 months from now IS Q3, but it does not start in 6 months

I can't wait to see individual benchmarks on Conroe, its interesting though to get a taste of it right now. hergie, I've only read in the Inq, that there was a mem- controller bug with AM2.

Yes...and now supposedly the newest "Woodcrest" core supposedly beats an AMD Opteron too. Bad comparison, but it uses less power too. (http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/03/07/woodcrest_server_leads_opteron64_in_benchmark/)

Benchmarks are benchmarks. Purely informational.
Should they have done these tests? I don't see why not.
Yes, it was a current gen architecture vs a next gen, but is that a bad comparison? No, its not. It tells us what gains Intel has made w/ Conroe w/ the new architecture.

Don't you think AMD will bench their new M2 against the P4 and the Athlon X2's? It shows what they've done to improve things.

Same thing with Intel.

I will admit that will probably be getting the Conroe when it comes out. I haven't upgraded my system for a while because of the new chips coming out.

Where is those AMD Fan Bullys? Eating alot of crow?

I hope they never show their ugly faces again.

AMD never beat Intel like that, ever.

Yeah, I can't think of a time when one processor beat another one over the other by such a wide margin. The only exception maybe the server chips. (opteron vs. xeon)

Intel said they would have a 20% gain in performance and yet, we see 40%. I usually don't like benchmarks but, I still feel good about the gains they've made.

I still believe in Intel I mean after all, I bought a damn Prescott! Now that's royalty right there! Its really not a bad processor at all though. Its performs very well for me.

I'm gonna need you helping setting up my LGA775 system, which I will fOSHO do soon. DFI has crapped out again, although my Venice has served me with flying colors.

You've only seen that in the Inq? I've seen at least mention of that in every article I've read about it. The most recent is here

"It is still about 3 months until AMD is expected to launch their new Socket AM2, but this time gap has only made the AM2 information search that more frantic. Most major manufacturers will be showing a working AM2 board at Cebit, but they won't be displaying any benchmarks. Our guess is that AMD is still not ready to hang its hat on benchmarks. The second spin of the AM2, widely called DVT or DeVelopmenT, combined with the latest NVIDIA MCP55, Rev. A02 or the ATI RD580, is widely reported to bring AM2 performance very close to Socket 939 levels. The earlier EVT chip fell far short of Socket 939 performance levels.

It appears that an issue remains with the latest DVT AM2 in that single channel and dual-channel memory performance are virtually the same on the latest DVT spin. If this is corrected, AMD may finally see the performance gains that they told the industry to expect with the move to AM2 and DDR2. Another AM2 spin is expected in the next few days, and until performance is more representative of the final shipping product, AMD likely does not want benchmarks leaving the wrong impression. "

They don't have the DDR2 controller completely worked out yet.

Yeah, I don't know of any at this point and its probably too soon. I myself am curious to know how the new Intels will perform in the 64 bit arena as well. I guess we just won't know until they are released and real world tests and benchmarks are performed.

Nobody cares about 64 bit.

When and if the 3GHz X2 comes out this year the E6700 will still beat it, and the 3.33 XE will be out. 😱

AMD wont have 65nm this year.
They say they can get 40% better performance or power consumption with the new process. Intel will still has a good lead. 8)

This is pretty much what happened when the P4 launched.

Actually it's not EXACTLY the same since the first P4 parts weren't that competitive and didn't take the performance crown from the Athlon till it broke the 2 ghz barrier. AMD was forced to limp along behind Intel for a while until they could get the A64, then only known by the codename "Hammer", onto the shelves. At that point AMD was once again the performance leader and Intel had to limp along behind them for 3 years.

Honestly people, IT'S TIME for Intel to have the lead again. It's time for us to wait impatiently for AMD's new architecture to see how well it stacks up. I don't know about you guys but I totally expected Intel to have a killer piece of silicon in Conroe, Merom, and Woodcrest, but that's no reason to spout doomsday prophecies of AMD getting stomped. It's just all coming around again like it has for almost the last decade.
